December 27, 2003 - Pitsburg
Tri-Village found themselves matched up against Arcanum in the consolation game of the Jet Holiday tournament sponsored by FanfileMagazine.com. It would be the first time in 7 years the Patriots wouldn't be competing for the championship. By the end of this night it was clear the Patriots were the second best team in the tournament...and they would easily defeat Arcanum 74-48. Meanwhile Versailles ran away with the championship on a 60 point victory over host Franklin Monroe by the score of 94-34.
The Patriots would start the night off running the floor and opening up the game with an 11-0 run. Leading the way were Corey Jay and Sam Lindamood with 5 points each along with a Cameron Quinn free throw. Arcanum got on the board with a free throw at about the 5:00 minute mark. But two Ary free throws, another Jay bucket... and a Kyler Burns three pointer... and Tri-Village was leading 18-3 with 2:11 to play in the quarter. Arcanum found themselves down 20-7 at the end of the first period. Jay and Lindamood led the way in the quarter with 7 points while playing good defense, blocking shots and getting big rebounds.
In the second quarter Arcanum would make a push to try and get back in the game. With the score 25-13 Arcanum switched from a man to man to a 2-3 zone defense. But that was a mistake as Kyler Burns would find the open spot in the zone on two straight trips down the floor burying two - "three pointers" and the Patriots continued to widen their lead on the Trojans... and led 38-20 at the half.
In the third quarter Tri-Village was firing on all cylinders and running the offense like a fine oiled machine as six players would score in the quarter. Senior Derek Ary led the way with 8 points with fine inside play cutting through the lane. The Patriots were unselfish working the ball around finding the open man. Tri-Village led 61-31 at the end of three.
Tri-Village's largest lead of the night was 33 points but Arcanum would continue to play hard and outscored the Patriots in the final stanza, eventually falling by 26 with a final score of 74-48.
The Patriots played well as a team tonight swarming on defense, boxing out and getting good rebounding and they blocked a number of shots. Corey Jay nearly registered a triple double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 8 blocked shots. Sam Lindamood also came up with 7 block and 7 rebounds while scoring 12 points. The Patriots registered four players in double figures; Jay and Lindamood already mentioned, Kyler Burns with 16 and Derek Ary 14 points. Burns also was named to the Jet Holiday "All Tournament Team".
Tonight the Patriots looked like a team that has started to play well together and will need to continue to work hard and bring intensity with them to every game. If they can repeat this kind of performance night in and night out they will compete with any team they play. Tri-Village will be back in action when they travel to Bradford on January 2, 2004. Go Patriots!
