New Madison – November 27, 2004
A new era for Tri-Village Boys Basketball got underway tonight. Led by Head Coach Josh Sagester versus an experienced team in the National Trail Blazers. The opening script didn’t read well but the end is far from written.

Senior Corey Jay got the home team on the board first with a bucket inside at 6:42. But senior guard Kyle Dunn scored the next 6 points for Trail giving them a 6 –2 lead. Jay dueled back scoring 2 more inside baskets to tie the score, Jay 6 and Dunn 6 at 4:05.

The TV defense would shutout Trail the remainder of the quarter. Along the way Sam Lindamood converted a steal into points but… it was back to back Three’s by Daniel Foreman that gave the Patriots a 14-6 lead at the 2:33 mark. At one point Trail moved the ball around on offense for over a minute and 20 seconds but … the Patriot defense would not allow a Trail shot attempt and the quarter ended with Tri-Village leading14-6.

In the second quarter the lead widened 20-6 but Trail would hit two consecutive treys cutting the margin 20-12. At 1:53 Lindamood dropped in a three followed by a Cameron Quinn free throw to double up Trail 24-12. Tim Beck would finish the scoring on a lean in jumper his only points in the first half.

Tri-Village played a strong defensive first half stifling the Blazers offense. “I was pleased with the way our guys got after it in the first half.” “They really came out ready to play,” said first year coach Josh Sagester.

The Patriots had to be pleased with the lead but Trail an experienced team with 7 seniors wasn’t about to roll over.

Quinn started the second half scoring two points but over the next 5:30 they hit a dry spell. This opened the door for Trail who would close the gap, a three ball at 2:06 pulled them within one 26-25. With Jay on the bench after picking up his third foul replacement Ryan Snyder came up with a big block. He then made a nice strong post turnaround jumper in the lane and… the Patriots led at the end of three 28-27.

In the final stanza Jay would re-appear and drop in two more inside baskets giving TV a 32-27 lead. Back came Trail again with another 3 at 4:21 knotting the game for the second time 32-32 bringing the blazer faithful into the game.

Trail would finally capture the lead with 3:27 to play 34-33 never to relinquish it again. With 1:54 to play and trailing 40-35 Quinn sank a 15’ jumper and… at the same time Jay was fouled away from the ball sending him to the line for a one in bonus. The opportunity to bring the Patriots within one was for not and… Trail would finally put the game away at the free throw line winning it 51-42.

“It was a tough loss and I feel bad for the kids,” said Coach Sagester. “They played hard but we made some bad decisions down the stretch and we have to learn how finish out the game.” “We’ll rebound and be ready to play next Friday.”

The Patriots were led in scoring by Sam Lindamood with 14 followed by Corey Jay with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

In Junior Varsity action National Trail was also victorious with a 44-40 win. Leading the Patriots were Mark Wheeler and Logan Brubaker with 11 points each.
