New Madison Tri-Village High School 12/9/05
The Arcanum Trojans came to town with an identical record of 2-0 like the host team. Both teams pride themselves on playing aggressive defense and it turned out to be a slugfest. The Trojans threw everything at the Patriots in the final quarter but they weren’t able to overcome the deficit. The Patriots held on with timely free throw shooting to win their second conference game 53-48 to run their overall record to 3-0.
In the first period both teams struggled to score when Sam Lindamood hit a runner in the lane at 5:42 to get the home team on the board first. The Trojans answered quickly and the two teams trade baskets for the next few possessions. Taylor Brubaker hit a bucket as the buzzer sounded to give the PATS an 8-6 lead.
David Barger opened the second period with 2 free throws and freshman Tyler Greer hit a big three to give Tri-Village a 13-6 lead. Arcanum closed the lead to 13-10 when Daniel Foreman hit a three and Barger rebounded a miss for a reverse lay-up getting the momentum back in Tri-Village favor. Two more free throws by Barger and a Mark Wheeler jumper gave Tri-Village a 22-14 half time lead.
Tyler Moore opening the third period with two straight baskets but another Foreman trey followed by a Lindamood jumper helped the Tri-Village maintain their lead. Moore again hit a 15 footer and Darrin Printz drained a bomb. Foreman and Justin Rench exchanged 3 balls and two free throws by Printz ended the third period with Arcanum behind by just 3 points 31-28.
The final stanza would be a long drawn out affair. Lindamood scored the first 5 points and then the free throw bonanza began. Over the next four minutes 39 free throws would be attempted as Arcanum tried to claw their way to victory. When Taylor Brubaker sank two free throws at the 1:55 mark Tri-Village held a 12-point lead 43-31. But the feisty Arcanum team kept coming and with 48 seconds to play Mike Eilerman sank a 3 ball (10 points in the quarter) the Trojan had cut back into the margin trailing 45-40. But the Patriots would outlast Arcanum and win it at the free throw line 53-48.
There were a total of 47 free throws shot in the game. Tri-Village connected on 21-34 for 62%, Coach Josh Sagester said, “yea we missed some free throws but we hit the ones we had to make. It wasn’t a pretty win and at times I didn’t think we were patient enough on offense but we found a way to win. We didn’t play well and beat a good team. I think this speaks well for us and is a good respect win for our program. I thought we handled their pressure well and found a way to win as good teams do.
Coach Sagester praised the team for playing hard and thought the seniors Lindamood, Foreman and Brubaker all played well. “Foreman stepped up for us tonight and our young guys again contributed. Barger had a nice second quarter and our freshman Tyler Greer made a big 3 in the period as well. We are bringing him along slowly but he is contributing. Logan Brubaker again did a nice job on defense and handling the pressure from the other team.”
For the game Daniel Foreman led the way with 17 points on 3 treys, a field goal and 6 free throws. Sam Lindamood added 14. Mike Eilerman paced arcanum with 14 points.
Tri-Village will take on Fort Recovery at home tomorrow night.
