| December 23, 2005 NEW MADISON Tri-Village put their undefeated league record on the line tonight against the Franklin Monroe Jets. The two teams on paper are very similar with a few seniors a couple of juniors, sophomores and freshman playing. Whenever these two Darke County teams get together you know it’s going to be a hard fought contest despite the records or experience.
Tri-Village got off to a quick start with Sam Lindamood scoring 7 points in the first two minutes of the game. Add a basket by Taylor Brubaker and the Patriots had a 9-1 lead at the 5:20 mark and FM needed a timeout. After the timeout FM employed a box and one to try and slow down Sam.
FM sophomore Bill Taylor scored four points in a row and then junior Grant Shellabarger got a layup to close the gap 9-7. Taylor Brubaker added 2 free throws and Bill Taylor got one to close the quarter with T-V leading 11-8.
FM jumped over T-V to open the second quarter when sophomore Noah Welbaum sank two free throws and senior Zach Long drained a long 3-pointer and FM lead for the first time 13-11.
Tri-Village answered when Taylor Brubaker scored again inside followed by a three-pointer from the right corner from Mark Wheeler off the bench and the PATS regained the lead 16-13.
Welbaum scrapped for a loose ball and scored two again inside but Mark Wheeler would answer again with another 3-pointer from the opposite corner. Over the next couple of minutes David Barger would score two baskets inside and Mark Wheeler would nail his third trey of the game… and when Sam Lindamood scored a three-ball at 1:07 the PATS lead 30-21.
As time was expiring in the half David Barger would draw his 3rd foul of the game but the Patriots would still take a 30-21 lead in the half.
Daniel Foreman opened the second half with two scores to give TV their largest lead of the game 34-21. The game would get a little more physical as the quarter continued with FM applying full court pressure. The Patriots lead slipped to 36-29 when senior Mark Hutchinson sank one from 19’ at 1:52.
Then frustration set-in for Jets head coach Mike Feitshans when he was whistled for a technical foul. Although the Patriots didn’t convert the free throws it was obvious the game was getting out of hand. The Patriots were able to regain their composure and freshman Tyler Greer came up with two big plays in row to help get the TV lead back to ten to close the quarter 41-31.
The finals stanza was the Daniel Foreman and Derrick Chowning show. Derrick would score 11 points and Daniel 7 in the period. The Patriots were able to take advantage of FM when by beating the press down the floor and Derrick Chowning was there to convert. The Patriots shot 10-14 from the free throw line in the final stanza to take home the conference win 64-54 to run their record to 4-0 and 5-2 overall.
Tri-Village got contributions from everyone tonight for a good team victory. They Patriots now travel to FM next Thursday December 29th to do it all over again as they face off against the Jets in the opening round of their Holiday Tournament.
