Sam Lindamood graduated with the second highest season scoring average at 19.8 points per game..

The 2005-2006 Boys Basketball Team was a season of uncertainty with just two varsity players returning it was a young team with little experience and the jury was out on whether the Patriots could compete in the Cross County Conference.

Going in many predicted the team to finish in the lower half of the league. But seniors and Tri-Captains Sam Lindamood, Daniel Foreman and Taylor Brubaker set out to prove those predictors wrong.

Joining the 3 seniors, as starters were two sophomores Logan Brubaker and David Barger. Juniors Mark Wheeler and Derrick Chowning would also grab significant playing time and rounding out the squad was freshman Tyler Greer.

The team got off to a fast start winning the first game of the season against Twin Valley South who would be a district qualifier in division III eventually falling to state champions North College Hill.

Next up they disposed of National Trail when Sam Lindamood exploded for 30 points, in a second meeting of these two teams Lindamood would reel of another 31 points. Sam would eventually score a season high game of 34 points in a win against Fairlawn.

The Patriots would go on to record wins against conference foes Arcanum, Ansonia, Franklin Monroe, Bradford and Mississinawa Valley rolling out to 7 straight wins in conference action.

This would set up a showdown at undefeated Covington. The Patriots gave the Buccaneers all they could handle… but in the end would fall to the senior laden team with 3 – 4 year starters.

The Patriots would then record two more league wins against Newton and Tri-County North setting up a final show down at home against Bethel in the final regular season game of the year. Both teams shared identical 9-1 conference records going in with the winner grabbing a share of the conference crown.

It would be a see saw affair with both teams laying it on the line at the battlefield. But when the dust cleared the PATS sufferer a heartbreaking loss leaving the Buccs and Bees to share the top spot.

The Patriots however could hold their heads high knowing that they earned the right to challenge for a title and although they fell short their 9-2 record was good enough for second place and more than exceeded the expectations of the experts.

The Patriots would then enter sectional tournament play taking on the 3rd seeded team Emmanuel Christian and would knock them off 57-52 to advance to the second round.

For a third time the Patriots would face Franklin Monroe after having beat them twice in the regular season. The saying “third time is a charm” was on the mark as the Jets would stun the Patriots to end their season with a 14-8 record.

The team however set a record for the second consecutive year under Coach Josh Sagester with the best defensive team in school history giving up just 49.3 points per game.

Coach Sagester would also receive accolades from his peers and was voted the Cross County Conference Coach of the Year.
