Mark Wheeler goes up for two of his 13 points, but it wasn't enough as the Patriots fell to a powerful St. Henry team.

St. Henry – 1/14/06
Tri-Village went on the road tonight to take on the St. Henry Redskins. Going into the game they were ranked number 7 in the state for division III and number 380 in the country according to Calpreps.com.

It would be a special night for St. Henry graduate Bobby Hoying and his family as they celebrated with a ceremony to retire his jersey.

T-V fans might remember Bobby on the 1991 team when they defeated Tri-Village in the state championship game. While at St. Henry, Hoying was part of four state championships two in football and two in basketball. He went on to a great career as a quarterback at Ohio State and then to the NFL with Philadelphia and Oakland.

St. Henry’s team this year has some similarities to the team of 1991 in terms of size and big time athletes. Two senior players are going on to division one programs. 6’-10” Kurt Huelsman is bound for the University of Dayton Flyers to play basketball and 6’-8” Toby Boeckman is going to the University of Cincinnati for football. Junior Andy Puthoff is also a highly recruited athlete with many big time division I programs looking at him as well.

St. Henry got on the board first scoring the first four points two by Kurt Huelsman and two by Toby Boeckman inside. David Barger netted a 8’ shot to get T-V on the board at 6:45. Huelsman countered and then Zach Thobe followed with a trey to give St. Henry a 9-2 lead at 5:32.

Thobe scored another bucket before T-V would score again this time off a trey by Daniel Foreman and St. Henry lead 11-5. The Redskins answered with a three from Tyler Post. A Daniel Foremen free throw and a mid range jumper at 1:58 made the score 14-8.

Toby Boeckman put in a soft baby hook and then Mitch Niekamp drained a trey with all five starters scoring in the quarter. Sam Lindamood got on the board with his first points with a three to end the quarter with T-V trailing 19-11.

In the second period St. Henry scored two more baskets before Barger made a nice post move inside against Boeckman for two and T-V trailed 23-13 at 6:07. St. Henry then started to bang away inside gaining 4 consecutive trips to the foul line. Boeckman and Huelsman twice each to increase the lead to 29-13 at 4:05.

The two teams would play the rest of quarter even with St. Henry taking a halftime lead of 36-20.

T-V got the third period going with 20’ jumper from Lindamood but… St. Henry would hit five bombs of their own in the quarter (12-for-19 in the game) while holding the PATS to just five points in the period while scoring 23 of their own to blow the game open 59-25.

In the final stanza St. Henry emptied their bench and every player on the roster scored in the game. Mark Wheeler provided much of the T-V scoring in the 4th with 11 points. St. Henry went on to earn a 73-46 victory.

St. Henry raised their record to 9-1 on the season while the loss drops T-V to 8-4 and 6-0 in the conference. The Patriots will travel next Friday to Mississinawa Valley to take on the Blackhawks in a key conference match-up.
