In the opening round of the Jet Holiday Tournament Tri-Village was taking on cross-town rival Arcanum for the second time this season. Tri-Village won the critical league match-up but Arcanum was playing for pride in the second round.
As in the first match-up both teams relied on defense and both struggled shooting early on in the game. Arcanum took a 4-0 lead before Derrick Chowning dropped in two off a high-low at 4:31.
Arcanum then reeled off seven straight points before T-V answered with a David Barger lay-up off a fast break to make it 11-4 at 1:18. Arcanum finished the quarter with two straight treys from Caleb Means and Nathan Greve to extend their lead to 17-4.
In the second quarter Kendall Stutz sank a trey at 7:09 to make it 19-7. But Arcanum continued their hot shooting as the Trojans canned two more treys and with the momentum rolled out to a 32-16 half-time lead.
The third quarter play ended in a stalemate with Arcanum maintaining their 16-point lead 45-29.
In the final stanza Caleb Means hit his third trey of the game and when he finished a lay-up off the break Arcanum held their largest lead of the game 51-32 with 4:41 to play.
Arcanum then rode the cushion they had built to an easy 56-40 win to avenge the season opening loss to the Patriots.
Tyler Greer led T-V with 11 points. The Patriots fall to 5-3 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow to take on F-M in the consolation game.
