The Tri-Village Patriots boy’s basketball team has experienced highs and lows this year. The low point of the season was a 6 game losing skid that saw a conference title slowly slip away.
The team has since rebounded winning six of their last seven games. The culmination and high point in that streak came tonight against the Bradford Railroaders as Tri-Village celebrated a “Senior Night” victory by the score of 88-26.
“Part of the reason for our success is directly related to our two seniors Derrick Chowning and Mark Wheeler,” said Coach Josh Sagester. “These two guys have worked hard and become good basketball players and really contributed to our recent success. If we are going to be successful in the post season we’ll need their senior experience,” added Sagester.
Tri-Village opened up a 24-6 first quarter lead over the Railroaders with Derrick Chowning leading the way with 8 points on his was to a 20-point night.
The Patriots continued to dominate in the second period with Ryan Buck and Chowning inside. Tyler Greer would score 12 of his game high 21 points in the period and Tri-Village led 51-11 at the half.
Bradford couldn’t make any adjustments at the half as Ryan Buck powered his way inside in the third period scoring 18 points on the night. Logan Brubaker and Kendall Stutz would score off the break and dribble penetration both with 8 points in the third frame giving the Patriots a 76-18 advantage.
In the final stanza with the outcome all but decided Patriot reserve players Heath West and Brett Foreman got into the scoring column as well.
“Tonight was a fun night for our team, our seniors went out with a good memory,” said Coach Sagester. “Derrick Chowning played a great game and even though Mark Wheeler didn’t score much he contributed 6 assists and got others involved.”
Tri-Village finishes the regular season with an 11-9 overall record and 8-4 in the conference. They will take on Southeastern in tournament action next Saturday at 3pm at Vandalia Butler High School.
