December 9, 2006 Fort Recovery, OH
Tri-Village 2-1 traveled to Fort Recovery to take on the Indians 2-1 in a non-conference match-up. For a second night in a row the Patriots were playing against a quicker, faster team that featured a 5 guard set with no player over 6’2”.
David Barger got the Patriots on the board first to give the PATS their one and only lead of the game 2-0. The quicker Indians raced out to a 12-2 lead by the 4:22 mark.
Coach Sagester called a timeout to regroup and it seemed to help the Patriots as they responded by handling the 2-2-1 full court pressure.
The ball control helped slow down the Fort and allowed the bigger Patriots to get three scores inside from Derrick Chowning to close out the quarter trailing 14-8.
In the second quarter the Indians were out and running again and with the Patriots trying to match their style the Fort opened up a 31-11 lead.
In the final 3 minutes Mark Wheeler started to find his scoring touch to net 8 points and the Patriots were within striking distance at the half down 32-20.
Fort Recovery came out firing again in the third period with the Patriots trying to play catch up shooting mostly from the perimeter and having trouble finding the range and the Fort increased their lead to 47-31.
In the final stanza both teams would put up 22 points each... but the 16-point deficit created in the first three periods was too much to overcome.
Ryan Buck poured in 10 points inside and Mark Wheeler dropped 3 of his 5 three-pointers in the final period... but it wasn’t enough on this night as Fort Recovery handed the Patriots a 69-53 non-conference loss.
For the game Mark Wheeler led the Patriots with 22 points, Ryan Buck added 13 points and David Barger pulled down 10 rebounds.
The loss leaves Tri-Village 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Patriots need to go back to work and come out ready to play as they host Tri-County North next Friday in conference play.
