Tyler Greer again had a great performance against National Trail as he goes in for two of his 20 points.

December 19, 2006 – Gettysburg, Ohio

The Tri-Village Patriots was taking on National Trail for the second time this season. In the first game the Patriots got rolling early and cruised to a 40-point victory.

Tri-Village started the game with two three-pointers from Mark Wheeler and it looked like the Patriots were picking up where they left off from the previous game.

However a determined and much improved National Trail team didn’t roll over this time. Trail was much more aggressive and attacked the basket eventually taking an 11-9 lead after the first quarter of play.

In the second period the lead would change hands several times. The Patriots were facing a 2-3 zone and found themselves getting open shots from the outside. The shots weren’t falling with any consistency and Tri-Village took a small lead into the half 21-18.

Coach Josh Sagester commented, “Our kids settled for the outside shot… we could get those shots anytime we want.” “I told them we need to attack the basket or get the ball inside, we don’t have to settle for the outside shot.”

In the second half Tri-Village did just that pounding the ball inside to Derrick Chowning and Ryan Buck. Tri-Village first 6 points came off inside play in the third period.

Every time the Patriots scored National Trail’s Kevin Brower answered… in fact he scored 12 of his teams 14 points and when his three-pointer banked in from 22’ at the 3:05 mark Trail led 32-29.

National Trail was playing hard and with confidence. Tri-Village continued to battle… but found themselves down 39-36 after three quarters of play.

In the 4th quarter Trail opened up their largest lead of the game at 41-36 with 7:05 to play.

That’s when the Patriots turned up the heat defensively creating turnovers with Tyler Greer and Mark Wheeler taking advantage.

Over the next 6 minutes Greer knocked down two-three pointers and a lay-up off a steal, while Wheeler scored 6 points as well. T-V had turned their deficit into an 8-point lead 54-46 with 1:00 minute to play.

Tri-Village was then able to close out the game with a 58-46 win.

Afterwards Coach Sagester said, “when you are on the road in the CCC anything can happen and tonight they (National Trail) wanted it real bad.”

“We didn’t play well in the first half… but I thought we did a much better job in the second half getting to the rim and forcing the action instead of settling for the outside shot.”

“We got a good team effort in the second half, I thought we got a gutsy performance from Tyler Greer tonight, Mark Wheeler also did a better job of driving the ball to the hole, Ryan Buck scored inside and grabbed 7 rebounds and Kendall Stutz did some nice things as well.”

“At the end we wanted the ball in David Barger’s hands and he is 12-for-12 from the free throw line and he helped seal the win down the stretch with his two free throws. Everybody contributed tonight.”

“It wasn’t our best performance… but we found a way to win. I give credit to Coach Ross and his team as they are much improved from the last time we played.” “The Brower kid didn’t score the last time we played them and he scored 17 points tonight,” concluded Sagester.

Tri-Village was led in scoring tonight by Mark Wheeler with 23 and Tyler Greer netted 20 points.

The JV team won for the first time 38-26.

Tri-Village runs their record to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Patriots will host the Miami East Vikings this Friday night.
