David Barger and Ryan Buck go up for a rebound. The two big men both pulled double doubles in rebounds and points dominating the Bees inside for a 72-61 win.

New Madison, Ohio – January 4, 2008

Over the last two years the game between Tri-Village and Bethel has played a large role in determining the conference champion. Two years ago the Patriots hosted Bethel in the last regular season game and a win would have given them a share of the league title with Covington. However the Bees stung the PATS in a tight contest and they earned a share of the title... while TV finished in second. Last year a win early in the season would have given the Patriots momentum and a shot at the title but again they fell short at Bethel.

This year the more experienced Patriot team got out to a big first half lead. They then held off a furious pace in the second half against a young athletic Bethel team and sealed the contest at the free throw line for a 72-61 win.

In the opening period the Patriots jumped out to an 11-1 lead with Ryan Buck, David Barger and Tyler Greer doing the damage. Kendall Stutz dropped in two from 15 feet at 3:34 and the PATS led 13-1. The Patriots then went silent the remainder of the period letting the Bees close the gap to 13-7.

In the second period Tri-Village opened up the offense hitting on all cylinders with shots flying in from the paint, off the break and from the outside. Drew Moore found the range on two long-range jumpers the last one as time expired in the half off a feed from Logan Brubaker while falling out of bounds. The Patriots took a halftime lead of 34-18.

David Barger opened the second half with a 15’ jumper to give Tri-Village their largest lead of the night doubling up Bethel 36-18.

The wheels then practically fell off the cart over the next 3 minutes. The Patriots became complacent on defense and stopped running offense. The Bees took advantage racing up the floor getting into the lane on their way to a 13-0 run and with 4 minutes to play trailed 36-31.

Tri-Village then collected themselves getting back into their offense feeding the ball inside to Buck who scored the next 8 points in the quarter for the Patriots.

The Bees just kept coming and in fact closed to within 3 trailing 44-41 with 2 minutes to play in the third quarter.

Another Barger jumper and a Greer drive to the rack expanded the TV lead to 48-42 with a minute to go but the Bees answered again. Ryan Buck then closed the quarter with another fielder and the PATS led 50-45 heading into the final stanza.

In the final period Bethel kept their furious pace and their dribble penetration along with hot shooting kept them in the game as they went stride for stride with TV but never really was able to get over the hump.

With 2:30 left in the game the Patriots took the air out of the ball forcing Bethel to foul.

Kendall Stutz and Tyler Greer took advantage almost going perfect down the stretch… in fact the team shot an amazing 18-21 for the game to give them a 72-61 win.

The Patriots put three players in double figures Ryan Buck led the way with 25 points, Tyler Greer tallied 16 and David Barger added 14. Barger also dished out 6 assists and pulled down 12 rebounds.

TV raised their record to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The JV Boys ran their record to 9-1 with a win over Bethel and 6-0 in conference play. The team will travel to St. Henry tomorrow to take on a 9-1 Redskins team.
