Vandalia, Ohio February 16, 2008
The number #1 seeded Tri-Village Patriots opened sectional play hosting Cedarville with just one win in twenty games.
The Patriots came ready to play putting on a defensive show by holding the Indians to just 21 points in the contest on their way to an easy 63-21 first round win.
“I was pleased with our defensive play today,” said head boys varsity basketball coach Josh Sagester. “We haven’t always been consistent this year on the defensive side of the ball… but I thought our seniors show great leadership and set the tone early allowing us to get in a good flow.”
The Patriots jumped out to a 10-0 lead with the big’s working inside to start the game before Cedarville finally got on the board.
Tri-Village then opened up the game in transition getting easy baskets, the last a three-pointer by Drew Moore to give the PATS a 23-7 first quarter lead.
In the second frame the Patriots clamped down even more on defense holding the Indians to just 4 points. TV continued to use their inside game and was led in the period by reserve Tyler Evans with six points to give the Patriots a 36-11 halftime advantage.
In the second half Tri-Village stayed focused on defense with the entire team seeing floor time. “This was a nice way to start tournament play”, said Coach Sagester. “We were able to get all our reserves into the game and many into the scoring column allowing each them an opportunity to feel what it’s like to play in the post season.”
The Patriots cruised to a 63-21 win to run their record to 16-5 overall. They will now prepare for second round action facing the #3 seed Springfield Central Catholic on Wednesday 6pm at Vandalia High School.
Tri-Village put 10 players in the scoring column and was led by Ryan Buck with 20 points, while Tyler Greer and Drew Moore both chipped in 9 points each.
