Tri-Village advanced to the second round of the sectional tournament to face Springfield Central Catholic who chose to take the bye and face the Patriots for their first game. TV welcomed the challenge and made the Irish pay for that decision en route to a 56-39 win to advance to the Sectional Title game to take on the Yellow Springs Bulldogs Friday night at 8pm at Vandalia High School.
Tyler Greer got the Patriots on the board first with a trey at 6:12 to play. A Kendall Stutz drive put TV up 5-3 at 5:45 and both teams then traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter with Ryan Buck putting in six points and Tri-Village led 11-8.
In the second period the Irish took their first lead when Devon Halloran put in a stick back and Springfield Catholic led with one minute to play 19-18… but the Patriots finished strong on a David Barger elbow jumper followed by a Ty Greer trey at the buzzer and Tri-Village held a 23-19 lead.
Kendall Stutz extended the Patriot lead to 25-19 to start the third quarter and Tri-Village was able to maintain that six-point lead as Drew Moore dropped in baseline jumper to end the period with TV leading 35-29.
Springfield Catholic was struggling to get anything going against the Tri-Village defense as Kendall Stutz shadowed and frustrating Kyle Coffey a 19-ppg scorer who would end the game with just 13 points.
The Irish then went into the foul mode early sending Tri-Village to line for one and one with 7:38 seconds to play. The Patriots would then live at the free throw line shooting 17-for-22 in the stanza winning the game going away 56-39.
Tri-Village shot 23-for-28 from the line for 82% in the game outscoring the Irish by 18 points and it would be the difference in the game.
The Patriots put three players in double digit scoring with Ryan Buck leading the way with 18 points; Kendall Stutz dropped in 14 and Tyler Greer added 13.
