Teamwork when observed is poetry in motion. Teamwork can be defined as each individual making vital contributions to the common goal. Franklin Monroe’s performance in its Cross County Conference Boys Basketball Game Friday night versus Tri-Village on the Patriot Battleground was poetic as the Jets came out a 61-55 victor.
All seven Jets that played Friday scored between six and 11 points and each of them contributed to the victory in some other way - be it taking a charge, stealing passes, rebounding, passing for an assist, or being aggressive on defense.
Senior Bill Taylor made the biggest play by making a stepback three pointer at the third quarter buzzer to tie the score at 35-35.
“That three at the quarter was big,” said Franklin Monroe coach Dane French. “That was a momentum
builder and it really set the tone for the fourth quarter and it carried over.”
The Jets scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter and held on for the victory. Gavin Glasscoe connected on a pair of three-pointers during the run and made a third one later in the fourth quarter
to help keep the Patriots at bay.
Tri-Village coach Josh Sagester said “The Glasscoe kid hits three threes in the fourth; that’s your dagger
right there.” “It is a disappointing loss,” stated Sagester whose team fell to 13-5 for the year and absorbed its second straight CCC loss making the Patriots 8-3 in league play.
“We didn’t make many shots today and to their credit I thought they hit some shots,” added Sagester. “If you’re going to make some shots, you’re tough to beat.” Ryan Buck of Tri-Village was the game-high scorer with 25 points while teammate Tyler Greer added 16.
The Patriots return to action Saturday hosting Greenville. The Jets were led in scoring by Heath Kaufman’s 11. He was followed by Glasscoe and Ty French with 10 points each, Taylor with nine, Lane Lucas with eight, Ethan Nealeigh seven, and Austin Pressly six.
Franklin Monroe kept its CCC title hopes alive with the victory. The Jets, 11-7 overall, are sitting at 9-2 in league play. They are one game behind Twin Valley South with one game remaining.
This Friday, the Jets will travel to Newton to conclude their CCC schedule.
Greenville visits T-V in a battle of Darke County Schools.
In the JV contest Tri-Village pulled off the win with a last second three pointer by Craig Dill to remain undefeated in conference play.
