Tri-Village entertained the Bradford Railroaders to open their season and conference play. The Patriots got on the board first off a Troy Pearson stick-back and then raced out to a 25-10 first quarter lead. Matt Miller scored 3 straight inside baskets to lead a balanced attack in the frame with 6 players scoring.
In the second period the Patriots again shared the scoring by committee with Tyler Greer and Drew Moore both netting 5 points each and Tri-Village took a halftime lead of 42-24.
The Patriots played a bit loose and uncharacteristic in the 3rd quarter running very little offense and showing little patience. This allowed Bradford to keep pace with Tri-Village as the Patriots lead just 55-34. Senior Dave Richards would score his first career varsity basket in the frame along the way and adding 8 different Patriot players to the scoring book.
In the final stanza the Patriots put it on cruise control and finished off the Railroaders on their way to a 69-45 conference win.
Tri-Village had 4 players in double figures with Tyler Greer and Cody Gunckel leading the way with 14 points each. Drew Moore netted 12 while Matt Miller added 11 points on the night.
Troy Pearson and Brett Foreman both had 8 boards each to lead Tri-Village in rebounding.
Afterwards Coach Sagester commented that it was good to get the season started. “This team has worked hard over the last year and although we don’t have much varsity experience we do have program experience. Our kids got some valuable experience tonight. Tyler Greer gave us his usual solid game and I was pleased with our 6th man off the bench tonight. Cody Gunckel came in and gave us some instant offense and we got the win. We’ll now turn our focus on tomorrow night when we host National Trail.”
In reserve action Tri-Village defeated Bradford by the score of 42-9. Evan Barger paced the Junior Varsity with 11 points and 18 rebounds.
