Tri-Village traveled to Franklin Monroe for their third game at the Hangar this season with one victory already against the home team in their Holiday Tournament. The Jets didn’t need much motivation to extract revenge… but to help matters FM would also be celebrating senior night and the Patriots knew that it was going to be an emotional night.

In the opening quarter Tri-Village would come out smoking as they raced out to a 26-13 lead. Drew Moore hit three trifectas and scored 13 points in the period. Tyler Greer dropped in 7 points and Dave Richards 6 points with two baskets off stickbacks.

The second period saw Tri-Village extend their lead 15 points after two straight field goals by Richards. Then FM slowly whittled away at the margin getting within 8 points on a Heath Kaufman fielder at 1:21 to make it 35-27.

The Patriots then closed out the period with a Heath West stickback and two tosses by Greer to regain their double-digit lead 39-27 at the half.

In the third frame Tri-Village would generate their largest lead of the night after Matt Miller scored his second basket in a row to make the score 50-33 with 4:00 minutes to play.

Franklin Monroe would make a little run of their own in the frame behind Heath Kaufman with 8 points and Austin Pressly with 5 points to close the gap to 50-40.

In the final period, just in case anyone forgot about Drew Moore he gave a reason for all to remember. He pulled off the trifecta again time hitting 3 straight triples and at 5:24 TV led 59-46.

The Jets mainly behind seniors Lane Lucas and Austin Pressly willed Franklin Monroe to stay close. Lucas scored 10 points in just 3 minutes to help keep FM in striking distance. If it wasn’t Lucas it was Pressly who scored 9 points the rest of the frame… but it wouldn’t be enough on this night as Tri-Village was able to answer every run that FM made.

In typical Patriot basketball with a lead they controlled the ball and pace down the stretch. They finished off the Jets from the free throw line shooting 16-18 for the night good enough for a 73-65 win.

“Wow what a great way to end our regular season,” said an elated Josh Sagester after his Tri-Village Patriots put on an offensive display at the hangar for a 73-65 win. “To come in here and beat Franklin Monroe twice in the same season is not an easy thing to do but we have weapons and the kids were patient and broke people down taking advantage of what they were giving us.” “Our kids worked their butts off and I couldn’t be prouder of them. Back in November is you would have said we would be 14-6 and 10-2 in the conference I would have taken it… many of the predictions were that we would be a middle of the pack program with just one returning starter… but our kids worked hard, believed in the program and deserve the success they are getting right now.”

“We’ve won 6 games in a row heading into the tournament and now we are looking to make some noise in the post season,” concluded Sagester.

Tri-Village finished conference play with a 10-2 record, one game behind conference CO-Champs Miami East and Arcanum who both finished with 11-1 conference records.

Tri-Village had 3 players in double figure scoring with Drew Moore netting 28, Tyler Greer 17 and Dave Richards 11 on the night.

The Patriots will be back in action next Saturday February 28 at Vandalia Butler High School with tip off at Noon. They will be taking on the Yellow Springs Bulldogs a team TV beat on a last second shot by Ryan Buck to win the Sectional Title last year.
