Heath West knocked down 3 treys and a fourth one the old fashioned way for 16 points as the Patriots defeated National Trail 73-42.

The Patriots were hosting National Trail in non-league action tonight. TV got off to a quick start and led 12-3 off a short jumper by Drew Moore with two minutes to play. Trail closed out the period with a 6 point burst to make 14-9.

Cody Gunckel led the way in the second frame with 7 points and Heath West dropped in two treys for 6 points. The PATS picked up the tempo connecting on a few more shots for 25 points to take a nice lead of 39-22 into the half.

Heath West would add another 6 points in the third quarter to pace the Patriots as they upped their lead to 55-32.

In the final frame Tri-Village was able to secure their largest lead of the night of 34 points when Tyler Greer penetrated and dished to Matt Miller for the lay-up. The Patriots would then go on to a 73-42 win to raise their record to 2-0 overall.

In all 7 Patriot players scored on the night with 4 in double figures led by Cody Gunckel with 17 and Heath West with 16 points. Tyler Greer added 12 and Drew Moore contributed 11 in the win.

“This was a good team win tonight, said Coach Josh Sagester. This team has a lot of offensive firepower and when we share the ball and give it up for an even better shot can only make us better. I saw a lot of that last night and even more tonight. We can get better at it and will keep working on it.”

“I was really pleased with the play of Gunckel and West tonight and if they continue to knock down shots for us it makes us a very tough team to beat. Tyler Greer gave another solid all around game but I really think this was a good team win. When you look at the stats you can see the rebounding is pretty even across the board as well as points and assist which are all good signs,” concluded Sagester.

The Patriots won’t have much time to celebrate as they prepare for a key early season conference showdown next Friday when Arcanum comes to town. Both teams reach the district finals last year with Arcanum bringing back the nucleus of that team.

In the reserve game Tyler Garland put up 18 points to lead the Patriots to a win over Trail.
