Drew Moore connected on 7 treys tying him with 2 past TV players for second most in a game on his way to 35 points.

December 22, 2009 – New Madison, Ohio

It was an offensive explosion for the Tri-Village Patriots at the Battleground. After a fairly close first quarter the Patriots erupted for 62 points in the second and third period and coasted in the final stanza on their way to a 101-56 defeat of National Trail.

In the opening quarter the Trailblazers opened up in a box and one to slow down Drew Moore. Tri-Village didn’t seem to let it bother them as they found scoring from Matt Miller with 7 points and Evan Catron adding 6 on their way to a 20-14 first quarter advantage. Taylor Neal and Brett Howdieshell tried to keep Trail close both scoring 6 each in the period.

In the second quarter Cody Gunckel erupted for 15 points (his only points of the game) and Drew Moore poured in 12 points as Tri-Village doubled up Trail to lead at the half 54-27.

The Tri-Village Patriots cheerleaders performed an entertaining Christmas halftime dance that left the crowd in good spirits and was going to be a tough act to follow.

The Tri-Village boy’s basketball team was up to the challenge and took off from where they left off before intermission. Drew Moore again provided much of the show with the hot-hand pouring in 12 more points hitting on 7 three-pointers on the night. Then it was senior Craig Dill’s turn as he started to launch from behind the arch to close out the period with a trey and Tri-Village led 82-45.

In the final stanza Dill would knock down 4 more three pointers his last one getting the Tri-Village Patriots to the 99 mark with a little over two minutes to play in the game.

Trail not wanting to see the home team reach the century mark tried to sit on the ball… but the Patriots got one more opportunity when Kyle Pipenger drove the lane and dished to Evan Barger who was fouled on the play. Barger stepped to the line and was true on his first attempt reaching the century mark and then the second to go over the mark and the Patriots recorded a 101-56 league win over National Trail.

It was a night for records as Drew Moore would find himself on the leader board with 7 treys in a game and the 101 points by the Patriots would be the 10th best in school history. The team also fired in (14) three-pointers, which afterwards Coach Sagester said, “I never realized, nor imagined I would see the day that we would score that many, wow!”

“This was a great game… a fun game for everyone as they all contributed in this game. It was nice to see Drew and Cody getting everyone involved early on. When they do that and guys like Garland, Morris, Pipenger, Barger and Cassel can get involved it will help this team and build their confidence. They both had big games and they are great scorers… but when they get everybody else involved we are going to be that much better.

It was nice to see Craig Dill light it up. We know he’s capable of doing that and I’m happy for him.

We are now 7-1 and off to the best start since I’ve been here. We now have a week to rest, get our legs back and get ready for the Jet Holiday tournament,” concluded Sagester.

The Patriots put 5 players in double figures led by Drew Moore 35, Craig Dill 15, Cody Gunckel 15, Evan Catron 12 and Matt Miller 11. The Varsity now stands at 7-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

In Junior Varsity action Tri-Village took a 53 – 44 win over National Trail to run their record to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in conference action.
