The Patriots were unable to stop St. Henry from scoring from beyond the arch as they poured in 12 trey's. Gunckel scored 27 points on the night.

St. Henry, Ohio – January 16, 2010

Have you ever had a nightmare that just won’t seem to go away? It might not be in your dreams every night… but it will pop-up every now and then. That nightmare happens every two years when Tri-Village travels to St. Henry as the Redskins have this uncanny ability to rain three’s on the Patriots going back to the 2003-2004 season.

The last four trips they have scored an amazing 48 triples and it was no different this year, eight different players scored from behind the arch for a total of 12 treys on the night and a 61-42 St. Henry win.

Matt Miller got the Patriot’s on the board to start the game on a free throw to make it 1-0 (his only point) the only T-V lead of the night. The Redskins then promptly dropped a bomb and then hit three more, while Evan Catron sank (2) trifectas to try and keep pace… but St. Henry led 21-9 after one quarter of play.

In the second frame T-V played their best ball of the night as they moved well on defense, defended the paint well and got a hand in the face of the shooters outside.

The effort paid off as the Patriots won the quarter 9-8. Cody Gunckel found some success in the middle scoring 7 points while Evan Barger grabbed an offensive rebound and hit the put-back and T-V trailed 29-18 at the half.

The Patriots opened the second half with Gunckel hitting two free throws and trailed 29-20 with an opportunity to cut into the lead even more. However, a costly turnover led to a lay-up and a foul resulting in a three-point play for St. Henry the old fashioned way.

The Redskins went on a 9-0 run before the Patriots answered on a Gunckel trey (he had 5 on the night) but T-V was unable to generate enough offense in the period scoring just 7 and St. Henry led 44-25.

The two teams played even the rest of the way with Gunckel scoring 11 of the Patriots 17 points in the final stanza. The Redskins also scored 17 points as well to record the 61-42 non-league win.

The Patriots are now 8-5 overall and 6-1 in the league, the JV team dropped a close 41-39 decision and their record stands at 9-4 overall and 5-2 I the league.

Tri-Village will look to recover and start dreaming about better things to come. That dream starts with the Bethel Bees coming to town this Friday night in another key game that has big implications for a title in the Cross County Conference.

For the Patriots it’s time to Dream Big because as they say “Dream No Little Dreams As They Have No Magic To Move Men’s Souls,” so lets dream big and play big this Friday.
