12/15/11 Arcanum, Ohio
Size was a concern for Arcanum Coach Gunter’s Trojan’s who hosted Tri-Village tonight. In the opening frame the Patriots proved why as they dominated the offensive glass.
Tri-Village sophomore Tyler Cook led the way with 6 points inside for Tri-Village.
Arcanum senior Mitch Brown was able to help Arcanum stay close scoring 5 points…but they trailed 15-8 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second period Tri-Village junior Kyle Pipenger picked up the scoring to help the Patriots open up a 28-13 advantage.
But Arcanum closed out the half strong with a bucket by Brandon Clark and a Chey Kramer 18’ footer at the buzzer pulled the Trojans closer at the half 28-17.
“We lost our focus there at the end of the half, said Patriots Head Coach Josh Sagester. We didn’t execute and turned the ball over on back to back possessions and let them back into the game.”
Coach Gunter from Arcanum agreed, “we finished the half strong and felt good going into the locker room down just 28-17, it could have been worse.” “Tri-Village really imposed their will on us inside in that first half with the inside presence of their bigs.”
Coach Sagester was pleased with the play of Evan Barger who had 9 rebounds in the first half, 5 of them offensively. “He was a huge presence inside for us and it opened up a lot of things we wanted to do as a team.”
Arcanum started the second half with Grady Garno draining a 3-pointer and trailed 28-20 but that would be as close as they would get. In fact Tri-Village would shut them out the rest of the quarter as they opened up a 38-20 lead.
In the final stanza the Trojans offensive woes continued as Tri-Village held them to just 4 points and go on to claim a 52-24 CCC win.
“We weren’t real sharp tonight offensively, said Sagester defensively I thought we played real well. Anytime you can go on the road and get a win it’s real nice. We are looking forward to getting back to our home court for the next two”, concluded Sagester.
“We had them right where we wanted to after one half of play said Gunter but we struggled against their size and missed key shots at key times in the second half,” added Gunter.
“When we had to go man-to-man I knew we were in trouble.” “They (Tri-Village kids) play within themselves and execute coach Sagester’s sets well, we just weren’t able to stop them tonight,” concluded Gunter.
For the game Kyle Pipenger paced the PATS with 19 points and Tyler Cook added 16 points. Evan Barger led the Patriots with 13 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.
Arcanum was led in scoring from Mitch Brown and Grady Garno with 8 points each.
The JV Boys won 55-25 with 4 players in double figures. Ryian Burson had 19, Colton Linkous 13, and Kaleb Chowning and Mason McCabe both had 10 points each
Tri-Village is back in action hosting the Greenville Greenwave tonight while Arcanum will take on West Milton.
