Tyler Cook had his way inside scoring 22 points against Arcanum in the opening round of the 49th annual Jet Holiday Tournament.

12/26/11 – Pitsburg, Ohio

Tri-Village opened up the 49th Annual Jet Holiday Tournament playing the Arcanum Trojans for the second time this year.

In the first meeting the Trojans suffered a 28-point loss 52-24 and was looking for a better effort this time around. When the dust settled the outcome was the same…but the the margin improved losing by 23, 64-41.

The Trojans came out in a 1-3-1 zone focused on trying to contain Kyle Pipenger. The strategy worked as Pipenger failed to score but the tradeoff was 8 points for Tyler Cook and 4 points for Evan Barger inside.

“Shade Brubaker hit an early 3 to let them know we can shoot from the outside,” said Tri-Village Boys Basketball Coach Josh Sagester. Then we punched it inside and did a nice job of finishing,” added Sagester.

Cook again scored 8 points in the second quarter as the Patriots continued to build their lead taking a 29-10 halftime advantage.

“We played almost a perfect half defensively, commented Sagester. He added, offensively we executed our sets well and took advantage of what they gave us.”

In the third quarter Arcanum went to a 2-3 zone and Kyle Pipenger stole the show scoring 16 of the teams 21 points including two acrobatic scores off perfectly thrown alley oops from Matt Werner.

In the final stanza the Patriots slowed a bit offensively and Arcanum won the quarter but lost the game 64-41.

“I was a little disappointed in our defensive effort in the second half, Sagester commented. We got up and lost some of our focus and intensity on the defensive end and we really need to shore that up,” concluded Sagester.

Kyle Pipenger netted 24 points, Tyler Cook scored 22 and Shade Brubaker added 10 points, while Evan Barger pulled down 10 rebounds in the win.

Tri-Village is back in action Tuesday taking on Franklin Monroe, upset winners over undefeated Troy Christian by the score of 55-53.
