1/24/12 - New Madison
Tri-Village put on a basketball clinic against the Covington Buccaneers winning in all phases of the game.
The Patriots were able to do whatever they wanted and the Buccs had no answer.
Covington started out in a triangle and two, switched to a 2-3 zone and ended up playing man-to-man…but they were unable to slow down Tri-Village.
After trailing early 4-0 the Patriots jumped ahead on 11 points by Kyle Piping and ended the first quarter up 17-9.
With the Buccs keying on Pipenger the Patriots began to pound the ball inside with Tyler Cook, Evan Barger and Andrew Willcox doing considerable damage in the paint. And just for good measure Haedon Schlechty dropped a triple on the Buccs as the Patriots took a 33-15 halftime lead.
While the offense was clicking it was the defensive effort that sealed the win.
The Patriots held the Buccs to just 15 points in the second half matching the first half effort rolling to a 65-30 Cross County Conference win.
Our defense was solid tonight, we did a good job of taking away their two primary scorers,” said coach Josh Sagester.
Kyle Pipenger contained Ryan Craft and Evan Barger shut down big man Cole Owens and they (Buccs) had no one else who could create a shot, so I was real pleased with their effort tonight,” added Sagester.
Kyle had another nice game offensively and we really executed our sets well tonight. When teams allow our two big men Barger and Tyler Cook to high low we will make them pay and they did that tonight continued,” Sagester.
Kyle Pipenger led the way with 23 points scoring off the dribble drive and easy mid-range jumpers. Evan Barger scored 13 points & Tyler Cook 10 in the paint. Cook also pulled down 10 rebounds.
“Tonight was a good team win and now we need to build on this with Bethel coming to town on Friday,” concluded Sagester.
The junior varsity won tonight 41-23 to remain undefeated at 14-0.
