Tri-Village traveled to National Trail in the annual double header, which saw in all 4 girls and boys JV and Varsity Teams, come out victorious.
The Boy’s Varsity Team jumped on the Blazers early and just four minutes into the game held a 15-2 lead. The Blazers played the PATS even for the next four minutes with T-V ending the first quarter leading 22-9.
Tyler Cook led the way in the quarter with 11 points and Shade Brubaker knocked down 2 treys and 3 free throws for 9 points.
In the 2nd frame T-V used a balanced attack scoring inside, outside and off the break. Six players got in the scoring column, Cook, Brubaker, Andrew Willcox, Haedon Schlechty, Kyle Pipenger and Evan Barger as the Patriots rolled on to a 41-14 halftime advantage.
Shade Brubaker connected on three - trey’s in the first half and continued his hot hand in the 3rd with four more triples causing the Blazers to pull out of their zone and go man-to-man. When they did, the inside opened for Evan Barger who was the recipient of 3 high - low passes from Tyler Cook resulting in 6 points to give T-V a 59-23 lead.
With the game all but in-hand Tri-Village continued to roll in the final stanza enroute to a 75-33 non-conference win over the undermanned Blazers.
“This was a good team win tonight”, said Coach Josh Sagester. “We feel like we have the parts and pieces to have a special year.”
“Matt Werner did a great job tonight of running the point and getting us into our sets, we haven’t had that here for a few years, plus he does a great job of defending the other teams point.”
“Shade had a great night hitting 7 three-pointers and Haedon Schlechty came off the bench and hit two of them.”
“It’s really is nice to have Shade get off to a good start and see him playing with confidence.”
“Haedon is a high energy guy off the bench for us and does the little things this team needs, like getting a rebound, a steal, making the extra pass and of course he can knock down the open shot as well.”
“Tonight Kyle Pipenger was off a bit (scoring)…which is going to happen when you draw the opposing teams best defender and attention. Last year he was the number two, this year he is going to be the other teams first focus. But we showed tonight we have guys who can score and other ways we can beat you. Kyle is such a complete player, defender, rebounder, playmaker etc…where he can contribute in other ways and he did that tonight.”
“I was pleased with our Big’s tonight, when you can get 34 high percentage points in the paint like we did tonight with Barger, Cook and Willcox we’ll win a lot of games. You saw what happened when they switched from zone to man, teams will have hard time stopping us in the paint,” concluded Sagester.
For the game Shade Brubaker tallied 24 points with 7 trey’s one shy of a single game record of 8 shared by Justin Shumaker and Brandon Falknor.
Evan Barger and Tyler Cook both registered a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds each.
Andrew Willcox registered 4 blocked shots and Matt Werner dished out 6 assists.
The Junior Varsity ran their record to 2-0 with a 59-24 win. Ryian Burson led the way again with 13 points and Kaleb Chowning had 12.
