Dayton, Ohio Northridge High School
It’s 17 down and three to go for Tri-Village High School’s boys’ basketball team to complete another undefeated regular season.
The Patriots struggled for a half, but put on a second-half blitz to defeat homestanding Dayton Northridge 90-80 in a non-conference game Saturday night.
Tri-Village, 17-0 this season after going 20-0 in 1989-90, plays at home against Bradford in a Cross County Conference game Friday, visits National Trail Feb. 8, and closes at home against Mississinawa Valley Feb. 9.
All three games are in the conference; a sweep would give the Patriots a second straight undefeated CCC campaign.
Northridge, a Division II team from the Southwestern Buckeye League, tried its best to end-run the Patriots. A 3-point blitz in the first quarter when the Polar Bears fired four of eight and over-came an 18-9 deficit to take a 23-18 lead had Northridge in control of the pace.
For the first time this season, the Patriots trailed at halftime, but an indication of what was to come occurred in the final minute of the second quarter. Trailing 43-34 with a minute left, Nate Lindamood scored again to slice the Bears’ advantage to 43-39 at the break.
The second half, with rare exception, was all Tri-Village. The Patriots went on a 24-14 spree in the third quarter to head into the final eight minutes ahead 63-57. In the final quarter, the Patriots’ advantage bounced between four and 12 points, with Tri-Village wrapping up the victory at the foul line.
The Patriots were 9-for-10 from the line in the final 1:56 as they outscored the Bears 13-9.
T-V’s Scoob Cook, working the low post and taking passes from Dirk Lewis, Nate Lindamood or Shane Bietry, scored 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
