February 24, 2004 - Tipp City
Tri-Village advanced to the second round game taking on the Lady Bees from Bethel for the second time this year. The Bees never challenged in their first meeting and wanted to prove they could play with the Patriots. The outcome though the same as before, Bethel played a good game showing improvement from their last meeting.
The two teams started the game slow and battled each other closely for the first 4 minutes with TV leading 9-8. Senior Mattie Burns would rain in a three and a Heather Deaton free throw extended their lead 13-8 to end the 1st quarter. The Lady Patriots moved the ball well in the first period with 4 different players scoring.
To open the 2nd period Burns hit a 15' jumper to start... but Bethel's junior Lindsay Hagemeyer who scored all of the Bees 8 first quarter points sank one from behind the arch to keep pace. Burns continued her hot hand with her second three of the night another 15' jumper and Tri-Village was up 24-15 at the half.
The Bees came out in the second half determined to make it a game and with a couple of Patriot turnovers and missed shots Bethel was able pull within 5 points 26-21 at 6:45 to play. The Patriots went inside as Brennan Moore found Samantha Coomer for two and then a Heather Deaton stickback helped to open the oustide game again. Burns took advantage with back to back scores another 15' jumper and her third trey of the night. Bethel down 35-23 with less than a minute in the third scored two quick baskets to keep the game from getting away down 35-27.
In the final stanza Bethel was unable to stop the ball movement and inside play of Tri-Village. Olivia Frazier took over scoring 8 points while holding the Bees to 4 points in the final period giving the Patriots a 43-31 win.
Tri-Village made a good adjustment defensively recognizing where Bethel's Hagameyer was on the floor. After scoring 11 points in the first 8 minutes TV was able to hold her to one field goal the rest of the way.
The Patriots were lead by Burns with 17 points, Frazier 12 and Coomer 8 in part to Brennan Moore's 12 assists to go along with her 10 rebounds.
The win set-ups a second showdown with Franklin Monroe for the sectional championship on Monday, March 1, 6:30pm at Tipp City. In their first meeting the game had big stakes with the CCC conference championship on the line and Franklin Monroe was able to come away with the win. The Patriots had a 6 minute lapse in that game and in order to win need to play four quarters of intense basketball with no lapses.
Lets all get out and support our team next Monday, Go Lady Patriots!
