November 2003
The lady patriots are coming off of a 8-3 CCC third place finish after back to back undefeated conference championships. Last year was a pretty successful season considering the many ankle injuries we had. We finished 13-9 overall and made it to the sectional finals. We have 6 letter winners back from last year and 4 who have started. We will miss leading scorer and point guard Kasey Falknor and a strong defensive guard in Melanie Bruner. The returning starters include post players Samantha Coomer (senior) and Heather Deaton (junior). Together they averaged 18 points and 16 rebounds a game. Also returning as starters are guards Mattie Burns (senior) and Brennan Moore (junior). Mattie tied for team lead in assists last year while Brennan Moore contributed well offensively but she was a real stopper on defense. Also returning from last year are Olivia Frazier (junior) and Mary Skidmore (junior). Both had moments of solid contribution last year and I believe they have picked their games up this year. Two more who should help the cause this year are top reserve player from last year Karli Dill (soph.) and Sara Burkhart (senior) back from a year off.
This years team will continue to run and push the ball up the floor. The real strength of this team will be its balance. I believe we have several players who are capable of scoring although no real super scorer. I don't believe we will press as much as in the past but we will switch up on defenses. We also have a bunch of girls who have worked hard in the off season and hope to carry on the rich tradition of girls basketball at Tri-Village. They get along well together and are very unselfish. We hope to put on a strong showing at our very own Bill Burkett tourney and carry that on throughout the year. If we stay healthy and catch a few breaks, we could have a lot of fun again this season.
