January 8, 2004 - New Madison
The Lady Patriots won a thriller over Twin Valley South pulling the victory from the jaws of defeat. The win has to be a confidence booster to this team that has lost a couple of games down the stretch when it looked like they had the game under control. The game was reminiscent of the Middletown Madison game when Tri-Village led throughout only to give up the lead in the 4th quarter and couldn't find a way to win. Only this time it was a total team effort in gaining the exciting win and keeping them alive in the Cross County Conference race with a 4-0 record tied with Franklin Monroe and Covington.
The Patriots led throughout the first three periods with their largest lead of the night at eight points.
But just as they have done a number of times this year they let the other team back into the game. South would take their first lead of the game in the 4th quarter with about six minutes to go on their way to an eight point lead matching the biggest lead the Patriots had all night.
With the lead 45-37 and 1:30 to play Brennan Moore would hit a big three bringing the Patriots within 45-40. A matching free throw by both teams made the score 46-41. Sara Burkhardt would sink a trey with 45 seconds to play and Tri-Village was within two 46-44.
Twin Valley South would miss a one in bonus with 18 seconds to play giving Tri-Village an opportunity to tie the game. The Patriots Olivia Frazier was fouled with 2.8 seconds left and converted two big free throws pulling Tri-Village even with the Panthers.
Twin Valley South immediately inbounded the basketball and was whistled for traveling turning the ball over to the Lady Patriots with 1.1 seconds to play. The Patriot's Brennan Moore received the inbounds pass about 5 feet from center court and while shooting the ball as time expired was fouled by South. Moore would be given 3 shots needing one to win, sank her first free throw giving the Patriots an exciting come back win 47-46 remaining in the race for the CCC crown.
Many times this year the Patriots would fail to convert their free throws or make a big play when they needed it but tonight they were good on both counts. Hopefully this will be a big confidence booster. Go Lady Patriots!
