New Madison – November 20, 2004

Going in to tonight’s ballgame Coach Maples addressed his players “let’s approach this game like it is as our second game of the season, not a consolation game.” “Let’s cut down our turnovers be patient and run our offense.” The Lady Patriots went out and did that with a 63-40 victory over the Ansonia Tigers.

In the first quarter TV jumped out to an 11-3 lead utilizing a full court press and half court man defense disrupting the Tigers offense. But Kendra Billenstein went to work in the last 2 minutes scoring the next seven points for Ansonia bringing them within one 11-10.

The Patriots decided to go to work in the paint to start the second quarter as Heather Deaton, Olivia Frazier, Mary Skidmore and Tina Allison all scored inside advancing their lead 24-14. Karli Dill provided a 3 ball and when Brittney Bailey sank a baseline jumper as the buzzer sounded at the half Tri-Village had 32-19 lead.

Ansonia would open the second half with two quick baskets trying to get back into the game. But a Brennan Moore bucket and another trey by Dill got the Patriots rolling again as they would build to a 48-28 advantage at the end of three.

To start the fourth stanza Moore found Allison running the floor for a fast break basket and… Tri-Village would run away as Ansonia could get no closer.

The 63-40 victory over Ansonia combined with Arcanum’s buzzer beating shot over Franklin Monroe in the championship game no doubt will help build confidence for Tri-Village.

The Patriots had eight players in the scoring column led by freshman Tina Allison with 15 points, 7 rebounds and Heather Deaton with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Brennan Moore led an all around game with 10 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocked shots.

Heather Deaton was named to the all tournament team on the strength of her two game totals of 23 points and 23 rebounds.

The Patriots girls and boys will both be back in action next Saturday at home versus National Trail. Reserve girls play at 3pm with Varsity action starting at 6pm. Reserve boys play at 4:30pm and Varsity will play at 7:30pm.

Student council will be offering a spaghetti dinner so come out and make an evening of it. See you at the games.

Go Patriots!
