The Lady Patriots played their second league opponent in sectional play tonight, the Bethel Bees. They were able to get out to another quick start and make it stick on their way to a 49-35 win advancing to the sectional championship game. They will be facing another familiar opponent in the Lady Buccs from Covington looking for a chance to redeem one of their two losses in league play this year. The Lady Buccs advanced with an easy win over Miami Valley.
TV jumped all over the Bees racing out to a 16-2 first quarter lead. Karli Dill got things started with a trey and five points, Heather Deaton added 7 and Mary Skidmore contributed 4 along the way.
Olivia Frazier opened the second quarter with a bucket inside. Bethel got two from the field and two from the line. After Brennan Moore scored the next 5 points to give the Patriots a 23-6 lead, Bethel took a timeout with 3:10 left on the clock. The timeout proved good as the Lady Patriots became complacent on defense and Bethel’s Sandra Campbell took advantage scoring the next 6 points and when Megan Bumblaugh hit a jumper with 11 seconds in the half they had cut the lead to under 10 points, down 23-15.
The Lady Pats came out of the locker room and immediately went to work. Dill opened the third quarter with her second trey and when she nailed two more in row at the 4:35 mark the lead had soared to 36-16. But just as she had done in the second period Bethel went back to Campbell and scored the next 6 points. Dill answered with her 4th trey of the quarter to stop their run. Dill scored 12 and Deaton 6 points as the PATS led 41-24 after three quarters of play.
In the final stanza Dill would notch her 6th three-pointer on the night and the rest of the Tri-Village team would find playing time as they rode the hot hand of Dill and Deaton to a 49-35 win. Dill led the way with 20 points and Deaton added 13 points and 5 rebounds.
Other notable stats Brennan Moore registered 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals and Mary Skidmore had 5 assists.
The Pats shot 50% from three-point range and 33% from the floor for the game.
Tri-Village will take on Covington Friday February 18th at 6:30pm at the new Tipp City High School.
