New Madison – 12/14/04
After suffering a disappointing league loss Saturday to Covington the Lady Patriots were looking to take their frustration out on someone. That happened to be the Preble Shawnee Lady Arrows.

The Arrows jumped up early 7-2 and that is when Coach Jim Maples decided to take a time out to discuss his team’s poor man defense. The Lady Patriots came back out and employed full court pressure while dropping back into a zone half court defense. On the strength of this change Tri-Village was able to go on an 11-0 run to close out the quarter taking the lead 13-7.

The contest was shades of the Covington game with the Pats running the floor and scoring easy transition baskets. Led by Heather Deaton who exploded for 13 of her game high 17 points in the first half. Most of those points were from direct passes by Brennan Moore who would finish the game with 11 assists. Fortunately for the Patriots the second half was not shades of Covington because they would continue their impressive run.

“I’m not sure why we have been having problems matching up and playing solid man defense this year, said Coach Maples. We play well in the zone and our full court pressure was really bothering Preble Shawnee. I really like the way Tina Allison applies pressure at the point and Mary Skidmore really gave us boost as well”, noted Maples.

In the third quarter Preble Shawnee tried to get the game into a half court set with the Lady Patriots content to slow it down a bit. It would end up being a mistake, as the Arrows would close the gap 32-22 at 3:50 to play. Sensing the momentum change Coach Maples encouraged his team to once again apply pressure forcing a number of turnovers over the next couple of minutes. Tri-Village was opportunistic of the miscues and executed their offense to perfection. Riding the hot hand of Karli Dill who would nail 3 treys and score 11 points in the quarter and their lead would soar 47-24 to end the quarter.

“I think the run really broke their backs and I was pleased with the way our girls responded during that stretch,” commented Maples.

The Patriots would coast in the final period to their 5th victory of the season. Tri-Village was lead in scoring by Deaton with 17 and Dill 14, while Moore contributed 11 assists and Tina Allison grabbed 7 rebounds with the trio of Deaton, Frazier and Moore hauling in 6 rebounds each.

The JV girls also ran their record to 5-3 overall with a 28-21 victory of Preble Shawnee lead by Cassie Fisherback with 13 points.
