West Alexandria – 1/4/05
The Lady Patriots took on the Twin Valley South Lady Panthers in a rescheduled game due to bad weather. Twin Valley South probably would have preferred the game not to be rescheduled as Tri-Village handed them a sound 62-32 defeat.

TV got out of the gates early using a full court press forcing TVS into many turnovers and the Patriots turned those into easy baskets. Heather Deaton got two quick baskets off the press and followed that up with two more goals off rebounds and they enjoyed an 8-2 lead. Senior Mary Skidmore scored 3 straight baskets two off Patriot steals and one lay-up. Add two Olivia Frazier free throws and the Patriots enjoyed a 16-4 first quarter lead.

Tina Allison converted a three point play to start the second period and the Patriots would continue their offensive assault while the Panthers would struggle getting into any type of offensive flow. Frazier lead the way in the period with 6 points, Brennan Moore nailed two straight 16’ jumpers for 4 points, Deaton dropped in 4 points and Karli Dill provided a trey giving Tri-Village a 36-10 halftime lead.

With such a big halftime lead you always try to guard against a second half let down. The Lady Patriots started the second half in a man-to-man defense going away from their zone defense from the first half. It appeared they were a step slow both offensively and defensively, as TVS would score 10 points in the first 2:30 and trail 41-20. The same amount they scored the entire first half. Coach Maples decided to take a timeout to get his team back on track.

The Lady Patriots came out with a set play and Dill would connect on an 18 footer and follow that up with a second set play the next trip for a 3 pointer and TV was back in the groove. Tina Allison scored two of her own baskets on the inside, as TV would lead 52-25 after three quarters of play.

Going into the final stanza it was apparent TVS didn’t have the firepower to stage a comeback with the Patriots settling back into their zone. TV would cruise to a 62-32 victory.

Twin Valley South 6’ post player Brittany Hayes led all scorers with 18 tough inside points. Heather Deaton led Tri-Village with 17 points and 7 rebounds and Tina Allison added 12 points. Brennan Moore played another good all around game with 7 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds. Mary Skidmore performed well with a few steals, assists and 8 points. Olivia Frazier and Karli Dill also added 8 point each with Brittney Bailey contributing 2 points.

The Patriots showed a very balanced offensive attack tonight and will need the same kind of effort as they visit the Arcanum on Thursday in a big conference game. Arcanum is a strong contender for the league title and is ranked #1 by the Dayton Daily News for division III teams.

All Patriot fans please make a trip to Arcanum on Thursday to show your support and help bring home a big win. Go Patriots!
