The Bill Burkett Lady Patriot Classic on the second night featured Tri-Village against the Ansonia Tigers in the consolation bracket with Arcanum and Franklin Monroe squaring off for the championship.
In talking with Coach Jim Maples he wanted to focus more on the fact that his team was playing the Lady Tigers and it was just another game not a consolation game. He was concerned his team would be a bit flat and disappointed but… what a difference a night makes as the Lady Patriots were up to the challenge.
Tri-Village got scoring from three different people in the opening quarter. Tri-Village held a slight edge 6-5 with a minute to play when Kaley Stahl and Tina Allison would each make a lay-up off the press and Karli Dill would end the quarter with her first of four treys on the night to give the PATS an 11-5 lead.
TV kept the pressure going in the second period and widened the lead this time getting scoring from Addie Overfield and Brittney Bailey along the way before Ansonia finally answered the 11-0 run and 4:13 to make the score 17-7. The sixth Tri-Village player to score was Kassie Fisherback with a trey to answer and they go in at the half with a 26-12 lead.
In the third quarter the Patriots would get scoring from Bailey, Allison and Dill who nailed 2 more three’s and the lead would swell to 40-20.
Going into the final stanza the game was pretty well in hand and the Patriots would cruise to a 51 33 victory.
For the second night in a row Karli Dill would pour in 18 points, with Tina Allison adding 14 points and 6 rebounds. Kaley Stahl led the team with 8 rebounds and Amelia Frazier handed out 8 assists.
Coach Maples said his team played a good half-court game and executed their match-up zone well. He pointed out that although Amelia Frazier didn’t score she played well off the bench to lead the team in assists. The Patriots also shot well from the free throw line sinking 8 of 9 charity tosses.
Tri-Village is now 1-1 on the year but it doesn’t get easier as they travel next to Covington on December 1st. The Buccs have a 2-0 record and basically return their entire team including and all area performer in Michelle Meyer.
