New Madison Tri-Village High School 12/17/05
After playing 4 games in a short time frame the Tri-Village Lady Patriots got a week break that turned out to be even longer with a snowed out game Thursday evening. The nine-day lay-off appeared to have an effect as the Patriots never really got into the game against an undefeated Middletown Madison team.
The Lady Mohawks set the tone of the game early as they applied a very physical and aggressive full court pressure defense that stymied T-V all night long.
In the first period T-V found it difficult to get into any sort of half court game while yielding some easy baskets to Middletown Madison. In fact the Lady Patriots took very few shots with four points coming from the free throw line as the Mohawks took a first quarter lead of 15-6.
The second quarter was much the same as the Middletown defense challenged every shot, in fact T-V made just two field goals in the entire first half, a trey by Karli Dill and an inside basket by Tina Allison. T-V was able to convert 9-for-12 free throws that helped keep them in the game as they trailed at the half 26-14.
“Considering how we played I really thought we had a chance to come out and make it a game in the second half, “ said Coach Jim Maples. “Our goal was to come out and win the third quarter and give ourselves a chance to be in the game in the fourth quarter.”
Tri-Village came out in the third period and immediately tried to establish an inside game and were successful in getting a couple of set plays to Tina Allison for scores. In fact Tina would be the only player to score in the quarter…but her six points were not enough to help close the gap. In fact they trailed even more 36-20 at the end of the third period.
To make matters worse sophomore point guard Addie Overfield went down hard with a knee injury that could sideline her for the rest of the season. Already struggling with ball handling as a team they can little afford such a loss.
But the team seemed to rally in the final stanza holding the Lady Mohawks to just five points in the period while scoring 10 of their own but… it would not be enough on this night. Middletown Madison remained undefeated with a 41-30 win. The loss drops T-V to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The conference game with Tri-County North cancelled Thursday night will be made up on January 17th.
Tri-Village was led in scoring by Tina Allison with 15 points while Karli Dill contributed 10.
