Lynn, Indiana – Randolph Southern High School 12/6/05

Tri-Village Mounted A Last Quarter Comeback To Stun Randolph Southern

Tri-Village traveled to Lynn Indiana to take on the Lady Rebels of Randolph Southern. These two teams have had some close games over the years and this year would be no exception.

In the first period Tri-Village got scoring from all 5 starters with sophomore Addie Overfield and Karli Dill both netting 5 points each to lead the way. Southern countered with Haley Frame and Snyder with 6 and 5 points each. Tri-Village would end the quarter with a 16-12 lead.

In the second period Haley Frame took over for the Lady Rebels scoring 9 of the teams 12 points. Karli Dill would try to answer scoring all 6 of her team’s 8 points but the PATS trailed 25-23 a the half.

Frame would then take her game to another level in the third scoring 13 points from all over the floor and Tri-Village was baffled in trying to figure out how to contain her outbreak.

Trailing 43-32 to start the final stanza Coach Jim Maples tried to get his team to pick up their intensity and battle back. When Frame scored the first basket to net her 30 point of the night Coach Maples decided to take a timeout and employ a different strategy as the man to man and zone defenses were ineffective in stopping Frame. “I drew up a diamond and one defense with Amelia Frazier shadowing frame and if she ever touched the ball Addie Overfield was to double up on her.” Well the strategy paid off as Frazier went to work virtually denying Frame any touches.

Over the next 7 minutes Tri-Village chipped away at the lead as RS had trouble finding a way to score. With the clamps being put on Frame. Tri-Village went for 24 points in the quarter; Dill & Allison scored 7, Kaley Stahl 6 and Brittney Bailey 4 but none bigger then the basket she made with 5 seconds left to play to give the Patriots a thrilling come from behind non-conference victory 56-55.

“This was a big win for us said an elated Coach Maples, it showed our kids how important it is to work hard and battle back to find a way to win games. This game really helped us grow tonight and is a big confidence builder. I’m proud of the way the girls responded. I had no idea if the defense we drew up would work, in fact only one other time can I remember it being successful when we played Waynesville 10 years ago they were ranked number 1 and we knocked them off. “

“Amelia Frazier really did an outstanding job on Frame and the other girls did a nice job helping out and rotating around. We got balanced scoring tonight and what a shot by our senior Brittney Bailey for the game winner.”

For the game Tina Allison dominated the boards with 12 rebounds, Addie Overfield dished out 9 assists and Karli Dill led the way with 20 points. Haley Frame led all scorers with 32 points.

The win raises Tri-Village record to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference with the Newton Indians coming to town on Thursday.
