Gettysburg National Trail High School 12/3/05
The Lady Patriots traveled to National Trail in a boys/girls double feature.
Tri-Village came into the game looking to even their record after falling to a strong Covington team on Thursday. In their two losses to Arcanum & Covington they were hurt when Tina Allison got into foul trouble early on and not handling the ball well as a team.
On this night they improved on both as they improved in the ball handling department and Tina Allison found a way to limit the fouls to stay on the floor. This formula along with Karli Dill hitting from the outside proved to be too much for the Lady Trailblazers as the Patriots claimed their second win to even their record at 2-2 on the year.
Karli Dill opened up the contest with a lay-up on her way to 18 points on the night. It didn’t take long for the Patriots to find Tina Allison for two on the inside who also would match the 18 points put up by Karli. But Trail would get a couple of buckets and a trey from Christina Gibbins to take an 8-4 lead. TV countered with Kaley Stahl and Addie Overfield baskets and then a good feed from Overfield to Dill got the PATS the lead again at 10-8. But senior Chelsea Halderman worked hard for two baskets inside to get the lead back 12-10. Not to be outdone senior Dill scored two to answer and when Allison scored on a fast-break the Lady PATS took a 16-12 first quarter advantage.
The second quarter would be another back and forth battle with the Patriots again coming out on top as they took a 27-23 lead into the half.
Senior Brittney Bailey asserted herself into the mix leading the charge of 4 different Patriots to score to open the third period to jump ahead 34-23. Halderman would work hard inside to try and keep her team in the game scoring 6, but… Kaley Stahl answered with 6 as well and TV led 44-31.
In the final stanza the Lady Patriots continued to build on their lead and won going away 59-42.
Coach Maples commented afterwards that his team is starting to handle the ball well and although they aren’t quite there yet they have improved. “We are starting to look up the floor and our passing is getting better, we aren’t always precise but they are working on it.” “Kaley Stahl gave us a good effort tonight and Tina & Karli played well.”
Another positive is Tri-Village free throw shooting this year and a 9-10 performance tonight.
In the JV contest the Lady Patriots pulled out a 3-point victory.
