New Madison Tri-Village High School 1/30/2006
The Lady Patriots were taking on a state border opponent in Union City Indiana. These two teams over the years have had some very competitive match-ups and this year would be no different.
Union City jumped out early to get a 4-0 lead before Karli Dill would nail a couple of free throws at the 6:54 mark to get T-V on the board. Union City would apply lots of full court pressure in the quarter forcing T-V into five turnovers that led to easy baskets as they opened up a 17-7 first quarter lead.
In the second quarter the Lady Patriots applied pressure of their own forcing Union City into six turnovers allowing them to catch back up and eventually gaining the lead at the half 25-22. In the quarter Kaley Stahl was Ms. Everything, rebounding, stealing the ball, handling the ball while scoring 7 points in the quarter. The Lady PATS got contributions from all their starters; Dill hit two treys, Kassie Fisherback 1 trey, Tina Allison got a nice stick back and Brittney Bailey’s defense put the clamps on Union City star Shawndrea Montgomery holding her to just two points in the period.
Both teams battled in the third quarter in what looked like mirror images of each other. Both teams worked hard in their half-court sets running a precise offense. Early in the period Brittney Bailey picked up her 4th foul and with her setting on the bench Montgomery was able to work more freely in the post going for 7 points in the quarter.
But Tri-Village also found their inside game with Tina Allison and Kaley Stahl. Allison scored 6 in the quarter. The big play in the quarter was when she blocked Montgomery and ran the floor to receive a pass for the lay-up on the other end to give T-V the lead 36-35 at the 1:20 mark. Stahl also came up big with two offensive rebounds for stick backs but Union City led 39-38 at the end of the third period.
Union City got a couple of inside baskets on back cuts to start the final stanza but Allison kept T-V close with two baskets and when Brittney Bailey hit a 15 foot jumper at 4:20 T-V pulled to within one point 45-44.
Little did anyone know but it would be the last time Tri-Village would score in the game. Union City’s pressure forced 6 turnovers in the final quarter and when Tina Allison fouled out at 2:44 the PATS couldn’t stop the inside play of U.C. as they rolled on to a 53-44 win.
Tri-Village was led tonight by Kaley Stahl with 16 points, 8 rebounds (6 offensive) and 4 steals. Tina Allison went for 12 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Karli Dill added 11 points on 3 treys.
Union City won the battle of turnovers committing just 8 while Tri-Village gave it away 19 times however, Tri-Village won the battle of the boards. Union City shot 60% from the free throw line going 6-for-10 while Tri-Village shot 61% on 8-for-13
The loss drops Tri-Village to 9-8 overall while remaining 5-4 in the conference. Tri-Village travels to Eaton tomorrow night for their second of four games in one week.
