The Lady Patriots finished up their regular season tonight taking on the Twin Valley South Lady Panthers. It also happened to be “senior” night and a time to honor the lone senior, Kaley Stahl. Kaley has been a three-year starter who has also contributed at the varsity level for the last 4 years.
“Kaley has been an important part of this program over the years and I stressed to our team that it was important to get off to a good start so that we could make it a memorable night for her,” said Coach Brad Gray.
Indeed, the Lady Patriots did just that as they jumped out in front 10-0 before TV South scored on two free throws at 2:21 to play in the opening quarter.
The Patriots continued to roll into the second quarter taking advantage of their size on the inside against the smaller Panthers.
Tina Allison would lead the way scoring 10 points as the Patriots doubled up South 24-12 at the half.
“Even though we led by twelve I felt our defense wasn’t very intense in the first half,” commented Brad Gray. “I told our kids we needed to pick up the intensity in the second half because if we are going to have any success in tournament play we will need to hang our hat on our defense.”
The Patriots struggled a bit offensively in the third period as TV South tried to take away the middle and pressured full court to throw off the Patriots half court game. South was about to keep the quarter close losing it 8-7 and trailed in the game 32-19.
In the final stanza the Lady Panthers made a run early on and got the lead down to 11 the closest they had been since the first half. Tri-Village answered behind senior Kaley Stahl and junior post player Tina Allison. Within minutes the lead was at 20 on a Stahl free throw at 3:19 45-25.
Stahl would score 9 of her 13 points for the game in the period to lead the Patriots on to a 54-25 league win. “I’m pleased for Kaley, she played a solid game tonight, defensively, rebounding and offensively this was a great way for her to end her career on our home floor,” said Coach Gray.
Tina Allison would lead all scorers with 22 points and 12 rebounds. The Patriots will now try and prepare for the #3 seed and rival Franklin Monroe Jets in tournament action at Tipp City on Thursday.
The Patriots finish the regular season with a 10-10 overall record and 5-7 in the conference.
