January 29, 2007 Union City, Indiana
The Lady Patriots traveled across the border into Indiana to take on Union City.
After a closely played first period the Patriots opened up a huge lead in the second period, maintained it in the third and then hung on for life to preserve a 52-47 win against a stubborn Lady Indians squad.
Tri-Village freshman Jordyn Fisherback had the hot hand in the opening period netting 11 of her game high 20 points as the Patriots opened up an 18-13 lead. Jordyn scored from behind the arch, on offensive rebounds, a midrange jumper and from the free throw line showing her versatility.
As impressive as the Patriots were on offense it was their defense that made the difference. Tri-Village had two seven-point runs in the quarter. The first run started by Tina Allison on a basket inside followed by a trey and field goal from Fisherback and the PATS held a 25-13 lead. The lone score sandwiched in-between the runs was a Union City three-pointer their only score in the quarter. TV finished the second run on a trey and deuce by Erin Bundy and Allison finished as she started with a field goal inside and Tri-Village had a commanding 32-16 halftime lead.
In the second half Union City came out aggressive on defense forcing some early turnovers. Offensively they were making crisper cuts, setting hard screens, getting more loose balls and just plain out hustling the visiting Patriots. The result was Tri-Village was held to just 8 points in the period while Union City scored 10 to draw closer 40-26.
In the final stanza the Lady Indians became even more aggressive as they clawed and fouled their way back into the game sending Tri-Village to the line ten times. The combination of missed free throws (11-for-25) with turnovers and a hot shooting Union City team made the game exciting down the stretch… but the Patriots were able to hold off a stubborn Indians team for a 52-47 non-conference win.
The win brings the Patriots to 8-9 on the year overall and 2-8 in conference play. The Lady Patriots are back in action Thursday in another non-conference game hosting the Lady Houston Wildcats.
