The Patriots discuss strategy late in the game and held off a stubborn Brookville team down the stretch for a big non-conference victory 40-35.

Brookville, Ohio - January 14, 2008

By Doug Frazier

At the beginning of the season the Tri-Village Lady Patriots circled the Brookville game as one that they really wanted. Brookville came into the fray with an 8-3 record; the Pat’s would have their work cut out for them.

Tri-Village controls the tip and starts to probe the man-to-man Blue Devil defense; Amelia Frazier sees an opening in the lane and the Pat’s lead 2-0. Brookville answers quickly as Weeden drains a three to take a 2-3 lead. It looks like it could be a long night for TV as Petit hits the long ball to push it to four points.

Tri-Village has the ball on an inbounds play under their basket on their next possession and Jordyn Fisherback hits a pull-up jumper to make it 4-6.Wheeler gets a put back for Brookville on their next time down the court to put it back to four. Tina Allison banks a three from the top of the key and the Pat’s are within one again 7-8.

Jordyn Fisherback exerts herself on the next three Patriot possessions as she scores inside on assists from Allison and Burns as well as a fourteen-foot jumper to put the Pat’s in control 13-8. Weeden gets a steal for the Blue Devils and goes the length and it’s 13-10.

Tri-Village has the ball as the quarter closes, Hillary Frech passes to Tina Allison on the block and she hits a nice turn around J with 0:02. Tri-Village gets to the first break leading 15-10.

Brookville comes out swinging in the second quarter as Petit strokes another three-ball to make it 15-13. Erin Bundy finds Fisherback inside and she draws the foul hitting one of two pushing it back to three. Rose gets another putback for the Lady Blue Devils to stay with the Pat’s at 16-15.

Frazier penetrates the lane and dishes to Allison for two more, Allison finds Fisherback on the next possession and it’s 20-15. Frazier drives the lane again and banks in two to go to the locker room with a seven point lead 22-15.

Tri-Village has the ball to open the second half, Erin Bundy finds Kaila Burns in the corner and she hits her first two of the night. Petit drops in two for Brookville to keep pace at 24-17. Burns is starting to warm-up as she hits a three from the same corner to make it ten points 27-17.

Drinnon goes to the line for Brookville and hits one of two. Bundy lobs it in to Fisherback who unselfishly hits a wide-open Tina Allison on the backside to extend the score to 29-18.
Petit hits her third trey of the night on the Blue Devils next possession for a 29-21 tally and that is how the quarter finishes.

Erin Bundy opens the fourth quarter with another assist as she lobs to Allison who takes it up strong. Petit gets a steal for Brookville and goes to the rack for two. TV lobs it inside to Tina Allison and it’s her turn for the unselfish play as she sees Erin Bundy wide open on the backside to make it a ten-point game at 33-23.

Weeden picks up a lose ball on the perimeter for Brookville and drains another three for a 33-26 TV advantage. Bundy gets a transition lay-up to take it to nine. Jordyn Fisherback goes to the line and hits both to the Pat’s back on top by eleven at 37-26. Brookville does not fold as Weeden hits a three and Petit drops in a pull-up jumper to bring them within six at 37-31.

Brookville continues to turn up the heat and forces a ten second call, but cannot convert on the possession. Petit gets another steal and takes to the hole and it’s a four point game. Tri-Village breaks the press and gets a good look but the shot doesn’t fall. Brookville brings it back down the floor and makes it a two-point game as Brisco hits two.

Jordyn Fisherback is fouled as the Lady Blue Devils try to get the ball back with the clock running down. Fisherback hits the one-and-one to put the Pat’s back up four. Brookville cannot find the bucket and foul Fisherback again. Jordyn hits the first one to make it a five-point game, she misses the backend but Tina Allison pulls down the rebound. The score would end 40-35 for the eleventh Patriot victory of the season.

When asked about tonight’s victory Coach Brad Gray had this to say. “I thought we played our best game of the season tonight. We circled this game at the beginning of the season as one we really wanted, we felt Brookville would be the second best team we had on our schedule. To come in here and get a victory feels great. The post play was great tonight and the guards did a really good job of getting the ball inside. Amelia Frazier has come so far in the point positions in 2 years, what can you say about her. We had a strong effort from our bench as well. Brittney Abney came in tonight and got her first varsity experience in a very tough game, she gave our starters some valuable rest.”

Coach Gray continued, “We played a zone defense all the way tonight which is unusual for us, we’re normally a man team. The girls did a great job with it. It was good to get in here and play a game on the floor that we’re going to win our Sectional Title on.”

Unofficially Tina Allison had an outstanding all around game. She registered a double double of 11 points and 13 rebounds to go along with 4 blocks and 7 assists.

Jordyn Fisherback paced the Lady Patriots with 18 points for game high honors.
The Lady Patriots are giving up less than thirty-five points a game to their opponents so far this season. Tri-Village takes their 11-5 record to Newton on Thurs night as they seek to go 8-3 in the conference.
