The Tri-Village Lady Patriots under the helm of 1st year Varsity Coach Brad Gray last season are coming off a 10-11 overall record and 5-7 in the league.
The team graduated just one senior off the team Kaley Stahl. Kaley was the team’s most effective offensive rebounder and second leading scorer and the Patriots will be looking to fill her shoes.
Last season the Lady Patriots focused on defensive pressure and ended up as the 3rd best in school history. Look for that to continue this year.
Coach Gray who is now going into his second varsity season returns a core group of ladies who saw considerable action last year. Returning in 2007-08 are four returning starters, Tina Allison, Amelia Frazier, Kaila Burns and Jordyn Fisherback.
Senior Tina Allison a two-time all league performer is the leading scorer and rebounder from last year and will once again be the focus of many opposing defenses. At 6’ she poses a problem to many teams inside. Tina has the opportunity to finish her career in the top 5 all time in both scoring and rebounding.
Senior Amelia Frazier is one of the team’s hardest workers who is a good defender and will once again be asked to run the point. Amelia is a good penetrator and has a nice shooting touch at 70% from the free throw line last year.
Sophomore Jordyn Fisherback as a freshman last year made solid contributions in all statistical categories. At 5’10” she is capable of playing inside but also can shoot well from outside and is equally adept at passing the basketball leading the team in assists last year.
Sophomore Kaila Burns was the teams best three point shooter last year and is capable of scoring anywhere. Kaila will be asked to step up and handle the ball more this year.
Three other players who saw varsity action last year are senior Erin Bundy and sophomores Shawnda Stamps and Hillary Frech.
Erin came off the bench and played a wing position last year and will be looking to start in that spot this year.
Shawnda was a pleasant surprise last year giving the team another frontcourt player who wasn’t afraid to mix it up on the inside.
Hillary provides quickness in the backcourt and is able to knock down the open shot.
Rounding out the varsity will be another sophomore Bre Abney and freshman Chelsea Royer.
The Patriots are sporting a young team this year but with two strong senior players and two sophomore returning starters the Patriots won’t be considered young and will be a front runner this year in many coaches circle
Miami East is the returning conference champion that everyone will be taking aim, Bethel, Franklin Monroe, Tri-Village, Ansonia, Arcanum and Tri-County North all will be looking to stake their claim in the top half of the league.
With some intense defensive pressure, improved ball handling and shooting the experienced Lady Patriots should be a highly competitive team. Let’s all get out and show support. Go Lady Patriots!
