I once heard Tri-Village Athletic Director Jim Maples say, “There’s something magical about Senior Night, and I wish I could bottle it and get it out when I needed it.” Senior Night is traditionally when they take the floor at the Battleground for their last game. That point in this season had come as Stivers came to face the Lady Patriots.
Tri-Village controlled the tip and struck quickly when Tina Allison faked a shot and pulled up for an eight-foot jumper. Erin Bundy struck next scoring in transition to make the score 4-0.
Sharonda Martin powered it up for Stivers to get them on the board to make it 4-2. Kaila Burns connects from five foot with Bundy following that with a put back. Then Amelia Frazier dropped in a fifteen footer to push it to 10-2.
Tina Allison gets a block and then backs her defender in for a basket in the half court.
Martin drives again at the other end to make it 12-4. Stivers would not find the bottom of the net again until late in the second quarter.
Erin Bundy converts two charity tosses and hits a fifteen footer to make it 16-4. Allison gets a steal and outlets to Frazier who finds Kaila Burns for three. Bundy gets another put back and Amelia Frazier finds Allison inside for a 21-4 score. Amelia steals and gets a lay up. Burns to Bundy and then to Allison makes it 31-4. Erin finds Amelia for another score and a frenzied first period ends in a 33-4 mark up.
The second period finds a TV lineup of Burns, Allison, Britney Abney, Hillari Frech, and Chelsey Royer on the floor. Kaila Burns starts it with an eighteen-footer. Tina Allison gets another block and then finds Hillari Frech for a lay up. Allison then finds Burns open on the wing for three and the score is 40-4.
Amelia Frazier enters the game for Allison and immediately finds Britney Abney inside for two. Abney cans two free throws on the next possession followed by a Shirell Gardner free throw for Stivers and it is 44-5. Sharonda Martin lays it in again and makes it 46-7. Frazier hits from ten foot and Bundy closes the period with high arcing three followed by a hard drive to the basket. At intermission the scoreboard shows the Lady Pat’s riding a 53-7 lead.
As the second half begins Tina Allison finds Kaila Burns on the back door and she draws foul hitting one. Martin gets another put back for Stivers for a 53-9 tally. Tina finds Kaila again for a five-footer. Jasmine Lee drives the lane and draws the foul, her single free throw puts Stivers in double figures at 56-10.
Allison finds Burns in the corner this time for a trey. Tina hits a nice turn-around “J” for a 61-16 score. Jasmine Lee gets a steal and takes it to the hoop for Stivers. Frazier finds Bundy back door for two and then takes it coast-to-coast for a lay up. Burns finds Allison inside for a dink. The period ends as Frazier gets a rebound and tosses it ahead to Allison who catches and lays it in.
The final quarter of the regular season finds the Lady Patriots holding a 69-18 advantage. In their first possession, Tina Allison finds Amelia Frazier posting up on the block. Amelia makes a smooth move across the paint for two more. Frech gets a steal and gets it to Tina who is fouled. Tina hits the first one; Frazier rebounds her miss and gets hammered. She drops both tosses and it’s 74-18.
Hillary Frech gets another steal that leads to a put back for Allison. Stivers shows no quit as Shanice Brown cans an eight footer followed by a beautiful catch-and-shoot from fifteen by Jasmine Lee.
One by one the TV Seniors leave the floor to a nice salute from the crowd. The last 2:44 sees Britney and Bre Abney, Kylie Thomas, Taylor Collins, and Allison Swihart on the floor. Bre Abney finds Kylie Thomas in transition for two, 78-22.
Martin adds a five-foot turn-around jumper to the Stiver tally. Katie Yohey comes into the game for Britney Abney. Thomas makes a steal and gets it ahead to Allison Swihart for a bucket. Sharonda Martin gets a put back for Stivers and the final is a fifteenth win for TV, 80-26.
The Tri-Village Lady Patriots finish the regular season with a 15-5 mark overall and 9-3 in conference play a third place finish behind second place Franklin Monroe and league champions Miami East Vikings.
The Lady Patriots will play a first round sectional tournament game at Brookville on Saturday February 9th at 4pm verses National Trail. Come out and root for the Lady Patriots in their tournament run.
