Kaila Burns - burned the Bulldogs from behind the arch with 7 treys and 23 total points in win over Yellow Springs.

Brookville, Ohio – February 14, 2008

The Tri-Village Lady Patriots faced the Yellow Springs Bulldogs in the second round of the sectional tournament. The Patriots came into the game a bit banged up with post player Jordyn Fisherback doubtful to play for the second game in a row. Meanwhile Tina Allison a 4-year varsity player and the other vital post player for the PATS was reeling from a shoulder injury from the previous game and would also see limited action in the contest.

Knowing the situation Coach Brad Gray was counting on the reserve players to step up and play a vital role in the game. “I told Kaila Burns that tonight was her night and she may be looking at her career high output.”

The Patriots got their first points on the night in true fashion from Kaila Burns from behind the arch. The Patriots used some patience without a true post player in the opening period. A basket from freshman Chelsea Royer and a free throw by Amelia Frazier would tie the game after one period with the Bulldogs at 6 points each.

In the second quarter Tri-Village inserted Tina Allison into the line-up and it didn’t take long for her presence to be felt. Springs tried to double down on Tina on the first possession leaving Hillary Frech free to shoot and she buried a three-pointer to go up 9-6.

Tina then asserted her presence on defense with three straight blocked shots. She then dished an assist with a kick-out from the post to Kaila Burns who knocked down her second three-pointer on the night. On the next trip down Tina was able to drive the baseline for two points and the Patriots were on the move on their way to an 18-10 advantage at the half.

In the third period the Patriots rode the hot-hand of Kaila Burns, as she would knock down 3 more treys. Several other Patriots scored as well with Hillary Frech, Erin Bundy and Amelia Frazier chipping in to run the lead out to 33-19.

In the final stanza the Bulldogs made a slight run to narrow the lead down to 34-25 at 4:45… but any hopes they had were dashed as Kaila Burns struck for two more bombs as Tri-Village pulled away to a 46-28 win.

Burns would score 23 points on the night dropping in a total of 7 trifecta's and as Coach Gray eluded to before the game a career high in scoring.

“I’m pleased with the effort we got tonight from some of our younger players”, said Coach Gray. Chelsea Royer as a freshman and her first start did a nice job handling the ball for us and distributing it on offense. Hillary Frech did an outstanding job of corralling Stephanie Robinson from Yellow Springs and held her scoreless in the first half. Hopefully we will get mended and be stronger come Saturday for the sectional final game,” concluded Gray.
