The Tri-Village Lady Patriots hosted the Lady Houston Wildcats in non-league action. Houston came into the game with an experienced team with lots of size and depth on the team. In the opening quarter Tri-Village was able to execute a portion of their offense and found some success in getting the ball into Kaila Linkous. KJ was able to score 8 points combined with a Chelsey Royer fielder for a total of 10 points Patriot points. However, they trailed after one period 15-10. The Lady Wildcats knocked down a couple of 3 pointers early on and out rebounded the Patriots on the offensive glass to get some easy scores.
In the second period Houston really exploited the inside game, particularly Kimmie Replogle as she worked her way inside for 10 of her 17 points in the game. Meanwhile the Lady Pats struggled to get their offense rolling and Houston took a commanding 33-19 lead at the half.
Tri-Village came out of the locker room determined to pick up the intensity of the game by changing over to a man to man defense with lots of ball pressure. The defensive pressured slowed the Wildcats down as they only scored 8 points in the period… but TV continued to have their own problems scoring the basketball, netting just 4 points in the period trailing 41-24.
In the final stanza the defensive pressure started to rattle Houston just as the Patriots found their hot hand. It started with Hillarie Frech firing in a trey… she followed that up with a steal and a lay-up. A basket by Linkous inside followed by Kaila Burns third three-pointer of the night at the 5-minute mark was enough for Houston to call a timeout to regroup. The run cut the Houston lead to 41-33.
Tri-Village had several more opportunities to cut into the lead even more but missed a few open shots. The defensive pressure employed by the Patriots eventually led to an early one and bonus situation for Houston. The free throw shooting of the Wildcats mainly Jacklyn Willoughby (8-for-12 in the game) down the stretch ultimately sealed a 52-41 win for the Wildcats.
Tri-Village also fell short to Houston in the reserve game as well. The Lady Patriots are back in action this Thursday when they will host the Bethel Bees in conference action.
