The Tri-Village girls were hosting the Lady Blazers tonight in non-league action in a twin bill featuring the boys and girls teams on the same night. After both the Junior Varsity Boys and Girls teams recorded wins earlier the pressure was on the Lady Patriots to keep the streak going.

Things didn’t look good early on as National Trail opened the game with a full court press that caught TV off guard and lead to a quick 6-0 start all off turnovers from the press. Chelsey Royer got the Pats on the board with almost 5 minutes off the clock… and the Patriots continued to struggle as Trail built up a 12-5 first quarter lead.

“I challenged our girls after the first period was over to pick-up the intensity on defense and to be strong with the ball,” said Coach Brad Gray. It must have sunk in as the Lady Patriots scored nine points in less then two minutes with a Kylie Thomas fielder giving the Patriots their first lead of the game 15-14.

The Patriots would score 11 more points in the frame while limiting the Blazers to just 4 more points to take a lead of 26-18 at the half. Kayla Linkous would score 10 in the quarter. “Our girls responded and played well as a team in the second quarter,” commented Coach Gray. “They defended well and handled the pressure much better. “We got a couple of outside shots to fall from Royer and Burns and that helped the girls to pound the ball inside to KJ.”

Tri-Village continued to play solid in the third quarter as they built their biggest lead of the contest 36-24.

In the final stanza the Patriots beat back a determined Lady Blazers team making enough free throws to keep them at arms length and went on to record a 46-38 victory.

This was a good win and a strong overall team effort against an improved… and good National Trail Team,” said Coach Gray.

We got good contributions from all the kids tonight… and we stress to them when you get an opportunity try to give us something positive. We got that tonight from Kylie Thomas and both Bre and Brittany Abney. When they got their chance they delivered and that is what I like about this team… no one is complaining they accept their roles and when they get the chance they contribute,” concluded Gray.

In the reserve game Tri-Village won 35-29 with 2 players in double figures, Taylor Collins had 11 and Alexa Foreman added 10 points.

The Lady Patriots are back in action on Monday night hosting a very strong Lady Houston Wildcats team.
