Shaye Thomas spearheaded a defensive attack while running the point for Tri-Village and scored 15 points in a 57-22 win.

Pleasant Hill, Ohio – February 4, 2010

The Lady Patriots were playing their 3rd game in four days with back-to-back league games due to rescheduling. Coach Brad Gray was a little concerned knowing that the Lady Indians have played most teams close this year and he wanted to make sure his team didn’t have a let down.

Tri-Village started the game with full court pressure and never let off the gas. In fact the defense harassed Newton into a lot of early turnovers as the Patriots held the Indians scoreless for in the opening quarter. T-V went up 11-0 on outside shooting with senior Hillary Frech scoring seven points in the quarter.

The offensive woes for Newton and the hot shooting for Frech continued into the second period. The Indians scored 6-points while Frech poured in 9-points for a total of 16 in the first half to give T-V a 28-6 lead at intermission.

Shaye Thomas who scored the last 6-points of the first half for Tri-Village opened the second half scoring the first 4-points and the Patriots were off and running again. The pace of the third frame was quicker for both teams generating the most offense on the night as Newton scored 10… but they still lost the frame as Tri-Village scored 18 to go up 46-16.

Tri-Village controlled the final stanza much like the rest of the game as they went on to claim a 57-22 victory. The win raises the Patriots overall record to 13-5 and 9-2 in the conference.

“What a game tonight for senior, Hillary Frech, said Coach Brad Gray. She had a career night scoring 22-points and was able to confidently step up and knock down the outside shot. She also did a nice job of handling the ball for us when Shaye Thomas was in foul trouble. All of our perimeter players had good nights and when we shoot the ball like that we are a tough team to beat.”

“Newton did a great job tonight of taking away Kayla Linkous double and triple teaming her in the post. Even though she only scored one point tonight, I told her it was like scoring 30 points. It was like a game of “Horse” for our guards, because they focused on taking Kayla away it allowed our perimeter players to make open shots, and they made them pay for that strategy,” added Gray.

“We have a big game coming up against National Trail and I know the team wants to make amends for the early season one-point loss at Trail. After that we wrap up the regular season on February 13th with Miami East and it shouldn’t be hard to get up for that game either,” concluded Gray.
