Kayla Linkous played just half the game but still managed 24 points in the win over Arcanum to advance to the championship game against Franklin Monroe in the Bill Burkett Tournament.

New Madison, Ohio

Tri-Village Lady Patriots opened the season in the second game of their own Bill Burkett Tournament facing the Arcanum Trojans.

TV held a 5-1 lead early and then went on a 14 point run to go up 19-1 with just three minutes to play in the opening period before Arcanum was able to score their first field goal on the night.

The PATS scored 9 more points while holding Arcanum scoreless to end the first quarter with a 28-3 advantage.

To say the defense was overwhelming was an understatement. “Teha Richards sort of flipped a switch with her defensive play and the rest of the team sort of fed off that”, said Head Coach Brad Gray. “We really need for her to play with that type of intensity all the time and when she does this team elevates to another level”, added Gray.

The second quarter wasn’t much better for the hapless Trojans who scored just two field goals and trailed 49-6 at the half.

Kayla Linkous led the Patriots in the first half with 16 points, 14 coming in the opening quarter and Teha Richards added 10 points.

The Patriots pace of play slowed offensively in the second half…but was able to get all 10 players on the varsity squad plenty of playing time. TV ended the 3rd quarter leading 67-12.

In the final stanza the Patriots defense was just good enough to hold Arcanum to just 19 points for the game to set a Burkett Tournament record for the least amount of points surrendered in a game.

They went on to win the opening round game 79-19 and the opportunity to play in the championship game tomorrow night where they will take on the Franklin Monroe Jets who won the opening round game over Ansonia.

This was a great way to start our season said Coach Gray, I was pleasantly surprised with the teams defensive intensity and real happy that all 10 of our players scored in the game”.

“We were able to rest our starters and that should help keep us fresh for our game tomorrow night against Franklin Monroe”, concluded Gray.

The Patriots had 4 players reach double figures scoring led by Kayla Linkous with 24 points, Krystal Falknor and Shaye Thomas both added 14 points each and Teha Richards added 10 points.
