The Lady Patriots were coming off a signature win against State Ranked Reedsville Eastern at the Pickerington shootout and if visiting Arcanum thought they might have a letdow n it was quickly erased.
Tri-Village jumped on the Trojans behind the aggressive play of Krystal Falknor. Falknor scored the first 11 points of the game and 15 of 23 first quarter points to give Tri-Village a 23-7 lead.
Another significant milestone happended just as the quarter ended with Kayla Linkous pulling down her 1,000th career rebound.
After a short recess to present the ball to Kayla…who promptly tossed the ball to her mom, play resumed.
The 2nd period wasn’t much better for Arcanum as Tri-Village continue to played with lots of energy scoring another 23 points with Teha Richards getting the hot hand with 9 points as the Patriots led 46-19 at the half.
“I thought we played with great intensity in the first half…but really thought we got a great effort from Krystal Falknor. She came out for whatever reason and played with a high level of energy and gave us a great game. If she can do the things that she did tonight it takes us from being a good team to a great team,” said coach Brad Gray.
The Lady Patriots continued to dominate in the second half with many of the Patriots getting an opportunity to play.
“I saw some good things from a number of players. Lexie Bruner got a couple of nice steals for easy buckets. If she focuses on defense everything else will fall into place. She is going to have that breakout game and knock down some big outside shots for us,” added Gray.
“Freshman Echo Brown had a nice second half as well and scored a career high 11 points, she did a nice job of taking it off the bounce and attacking the basket,” continued Gray.
The Patriots didn’t relent in the final stanza on their way to an easy 80-37 win.
“Even though our margin of victory wasn’t as big the first time we played Arcanum we played one of our best games tonight. That’s a testament to Arcanum who has dramatically improved from the first time we played them. They have nice young players and are going to be good in the future,” commented Gray.
“I have to give credit to Shaye Thomas tonight she played with a broken finger and really toughed it out, she could have called it quits but she is a tough kid.”
“Elizabeth Collins came in and even though she is the smallest player on the floor got after it on defense and knocked down some shots as well,” added Gray.
“This was great team win tonight…but now we need to prepare for Bradford and I know they have been playing hard and we’ll need to be ready,” concluded Gray.
The Patriots placed 4 players in double figures, Krystal Falknor with 21 points, Teha Richards 15, Kayla Linkous 13 and Echo Brown with 11.
Tri-Village runs their record to 12-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play, while Arcanum falls to 2-12 and 1-7.
