12/17/11 – Covington, Ohio

Tri-Village traveled to Covington to play the Lady Buccs in a key Cross County Conference game.

On the strength of a huge first quarter the Patriots were able to come away with a 54-34 win over the Buccs.

Tri-Village came out with a full court press and the Buccs committed numerous turnovers that led to easy points for the Patriots. Before the Buccs knew what hit them the PATS had amassed 19 points while shutting out the Buccs.

“Our first quarter was textbook basketball, our girls executed all phases of the game extremely well, defensively and offensively and the way I know they are capable of playing,” said coach Brad Gray.

Kayla Linkous led the charge with 10 points and Teha Richards added 5.

The Buccs gained their composure in the second period finally being able to get into a half court game and played the PATS even with TV holding a 30-10 halftime advantage.

The second half mirrored the second quarter with both teams again playing even scoring 24 points each and the Patriots claimed a 54-34 league win.

“I was a little disappointed in the way we finished the game after getting off to such a great start”, said Gray. With the big lead we lost focus and relaxed, credit Covington they didn’t quit, showed pride and hung tough over the remainder of the game”, added Gray.

“Anytime you can go to Covington and a take a win from coach Besecker and his team on their floor that is a good win because they fundamentally do things right’, concluded Gray.

Tri-Village had two players in double figures Kayla Linkous poured in 24 points and Teha Richards added 11.

The Patriots host Miami East on Thursday in a key contest that will ultimately determine the front-runner for the Cross County Conference title.

In junior varsity action the PATS remain undefeated as well running their record to 7-0 with a 35-13 win over the Buccs.
